Take a look at this german site showing modding of a A600, regarding how to install it into a car and use it as good MP3 Player, excellent Navigator and also for entertaining use. Enjoy it. (available in english also)

A pretty slow MCU could also be used to drive the mp3 decoder, however the A600 provides an IDE interface etc which cuts the development effort/time down a bit ;) |

Posted by Raffaele on 12-Feb-2004 08:37 GMT | I prefer the version with A1200...
...because you can add to it a 16bit soundcard...
And it makes the difference compared to an A600 with 8bit audio chipset |

Very nice idea :-) |

Posted by Ole-Egil on 12-Feb-2004 10:33 GMT | I just had to quote this one:
"6. and all the boasters with they're Car-HighTec-DVD-Players can go home, if you are able to play Jump'n'Runs, car racing or Bomberman in multiplayer-mode in your car :-)))))"
Amen. That is so right. I'll be fitting my next car with LCD sceens and mini-itx AmigaOnes for multiplayer games for sure :-)
Then I'll need to hire a driver so I can play games while travelling... Hmm, costly. |

Posted by Alan LM Buxey on 12-Feb-2004 11:08 GMT | In reply to Comment 8 (Raffaele): not an issue....the A600 isnt using Paula for sound output (apart from the
games - and even the A1200 wont use a 3rd party sound card for hardware bangin' old skool games0 - instead, its using the MAS - which has a very respectable output.
you could go 1 better here - have the A600 kept up by battery juice (i guess its got an isolator etc to stop typical drain), use a PCMCIA network card and
connect this to a wireless bridge...when the car is parked at home, you
could change your MP3 collection via the net.... connect a serial link to a relay and you could have a remotely operated heater for cold winter mornings... engine block and windows perhaps... maybe add a serial GPS device, record your journeys to disk and then when at home, you can do anaylsis (distances travelled, fuel consumption rates....etc - until AmigaOS gets a decent GPS software suite we're losing out on this point :-(
