145 Euros + parts is a bit steep for a BPPC repair. You could buy another PPC card on Ebay for not much more than that.

What are the advantages of going through Hyperion rather than just emailing amiga.fr directly?

When it's DONE :)

Hoever to answer your question YES there is a BPPC Port of AOS4

It isn't a big secret that it already boots in to Workbench.

Most BPPC cards on ebay have been fetching between £150 - £200+ ukp. So, I think you are still well ahead if you can get your card repaired. .

Still BPPC cards on ebay are few and far between and CSPPC cards even more. Once OS4 for these cards are available, I bet the Auction price will soar.

Imagine you have an A1200T with only a 68k processor and you want to Sell it
Imagine you have an A1200T with a BPPC card and you want to sell it.

Once OS4 is out, which one do you think will sell for more and faster?

"145 Euros + parts is a bit steep for a BPPC repair. You could buy another PPC card on Ebay for not much more than that."

I find it to be a fair price. I have had my share of old commodore computers repaired during the time and it have always been costly, even compared to this :)

Also keep in mind that you are guarantied to get your card back from Amiga.fr unlike if you send it for a cheaper(?) repair at (the thiefs n liars) DCE.

But I agree it's a lot to spend on old hardware when the money could be spent on new stuff:-)

Remember that they can't change damaged ppc chips because the can't solder BPGA components, so if you know that your ppc chip is broken (for example because you applied too much force over the ppc chip) do not send it...

I got a repair from DCE for my 603e+ for about 50 EUR (it ws 100 DM) + parts. They did it well and it took about 10 weeks. All in all I was very satisfied with them (but I agree not all share the same experience).

How does one break his PPC chip on them?! It's not like you need to apply pressure on them to mount the card et all ;)

From AWN:"It is official, AmigaOS4 will run on any Amiga1200 equipped with a BlizzardPPC." Keyword is "will". It was also mentioned in the christmas 2003 CAM IIRC, but havent seen public claims it actually is booting into WB (yet).

Thats right. Nobody saw it because it was mentioned on a high profile (for the Amiga world) site with nearly 2000 members, that gets a significant amount of web traffic compared to most Amiga sites.

Well, I know people who sent his card to Hyperion and they couldn't repair it because they had to change the ppc chip and they can't solder Ball Pin Grid Array chips.

In reply to Comment 12 (Amon_Re):
Some people damaged their cyberstorm ppc cards when they inserted them in their a4000s (the ppc heatsink is a point where you could apply force easily to fit the board correctly), some people who burnt the ppcs with excesive overclocking may need other company that can solder, reball, etc bpga parts.

In Spain a friend found one shop where he could exchange his ppc by a ppc taken from a mac, but the cost was very high... reballing a ppc taken from a mac card is also very expensive.

I've also mentioned it countless times here on ann.lu - after
it was mentioned in public by Hyperion

its been running natively for quite some time now. and the 68k parts are
being replaced bit by bit.

stil no sign of the mythical post-0.4 MorphOS for BPPC and CSPPC though
(and MorphOS is supposed to be public beta...all those potential testers
going to waste....all those potential coders going to waste..)

There are a few pages that deal with overclocking CSPPC & Blizzard boards. The ones I found achieve this with faster crystals and better cooling.

But I've seen that the PPC 604e chips are as fast as 350Mhz. Can I upgrade the processor om my CSPPC from a 233 to a 350 and then overclock the 350?

Only for internal power, I presume? If so, then don't worry, just change the voltage regulator for something that generates the right voltage ;-)
