Hermans is going to sue Epic because he can't stand MorphOS See details. Here are some quotes from Hermans from a recent IRC chat:

"They'll reap what they've sowed. Buck really should learn how to use Google."
"Should have messed with us when they still had money to pay banner ads or the employees."
"ask Thomas Steiding from Epic."
"he has to appear in court for breach of contract."
"the port he approved for distribution and which lists him explictly as betatester? ;)"
"Epic is the MorphOS obsessed German gaming company"

In reply to Comment 17 (Tigger):
There's more to a computer than just a CPU. Who would port Intent to run on MorphOS (or if not on MorphOS, on the bare Pegasos hardware)? unless it's a clone of a supported OS (which I'm pretty sure it is not), it's going to be a non-trivial exercise, that will occupy at least one programmer and one QA engineer a number of weeks to do (even if the Pegasos is treated as a Linux box for the purposes of this exercise, I'm sure Tao would want to make sure that Intent works 100% on PegXLin). That is Tao's job, not Amiga Inc's (unless Amiga Inc had some sort of co-ownership of the Intent code, something I really doubt). AmigaInc's job would be to make sure the Tao libraries collectedly known as "the Amiga DE" work on Morphos Intent, and make any changes necessary to make sure that it does.

Looks like Bill Buck has decided he really doesn't need Hyperion on his side. One thing is jabbing each other online, quite another is to side with an opponent in a lawsuit. I really don't think he's ever wanted OS4 on the Pegasos, unless of course he was planning to take it by force all along. Reading this comments online, this would not be a huge surprise.

How many ways of taking _that_ quote out of context there are? I think that number is close if not equal to 0.

Anyway, thus you confirm those are real quotes? Thanks very much.

I think some one is out to damage Hyperion, no company makes official statements at the weekend, nor can I se any relevance between the quotes and about suing Epic,

On the other subject; Hyperion don’t like Epic it’s only natural, they are competing after all, if I where Hyperion; then I shore I will not sue them; I rather get control over Epic, by baying shares, Epic has good developers and Hyperion have there hands full developing OS4.0 they need more developers to do game ports; if they are going to position them self in tiny market, expecting to grow some.

Arbitrarily arguing for and against the same thing are we, Fabio? Care to tell us once and for all if you prefer things in it's appropriate context or not?

Anyhow, Ben Hermans personal opinion stated on IRC is not neccessarily an official statement by Hyperion Entertainment, now is it? This whole thread is pointless and should be removed.

Posted by Ole-Egil on 23-Feb-2004 07:09 GMT
In reply to Comment 33 (Fabio Alemagna):
How do you know that it is self-contained? Because it almost forms a valid sentence structure? The thing about taking things out of context is that single sentences/snippets are not the whole discussion.

If we were discussing, and I said "you're a moron" and then later said "ok, sorry I called you a moron" then we might part as friends.

If I discuss with someone else and says "Fabio is a moron" and later "ok, my bad, Fabio is correct, I am the moron" then depending on how much of the conversation you read you might be seriously offended, or you might become my friend. This is why context is a GOOD THING (TM) ;-)

In fact, if someone later takes single sentences from _this_ post out of the context they were written in and posts them to you in an email that says "see what Ole-Egil said about you", you could be lead to believe that I am calling you a moron. A bit far-fetched, seeing as you're NOT that stupid, but context is still a good thing :-)

I don't have ANY clue as to context in THIS matter, though. Therefore I choose to NOT speculate. And I would advice everyone else to do the same :-)

I do, of course, and, unless the whole sentence gives a completely different meaning to that piece of text, that text is in its appopriate context. For example, if I say "You are an idiot" (mind you, it's just an example), does it matter in which context I put that sentence? I called you an idiot regardless of the context that sentence was in, and that's all that matters.

That's why I _asked_ how could one put such a statement out of context, and didn't outright say it's in its right context. It is a self-contained sentence, though (of course, unless it's been mangled).

Anyway, obviously some of the readers of this thread read those sentences "live", so all we need is someone provide us with the right context. Bet that won't happen, tho ;-)

Imagine if I posted this:

How about if I would say, for example:

You're an idiot.

Of course I don't think you're an idiot for real, I'm just using this sentence as an example. However, if I really would say this to you, wouldn't that be rude?

--- >8 ---

Did I just now call you an idiot or not? I mean, the sentence "You're an idiot" is by your own reasoning self-contained, is it not?
