GEOS, the "Graphical Environment Operating Systems" for the C64 and C128 computers are now available for FREE download! Even though they are still being sold (at a reduced price), you now also have the option to download it for free. If you choose to download it instead of buying it, you will obviously not get the original floppy disks nor the printed documentation.

As a user, you are perfectly welcome to download GEOS here and use it as much as you'd like. The only restrictions are you must not sell it or redistribute it in any form or fashion. The only way it may be redistributed is if you know someone who would like a copy but they have no way of downloading it here. In that case, you are allowed to download GEOS for that person, but you must not charge for the service nor may you charge for the disks you supply. This is to be a completely free service available only from this web site here at cmdrkey.com.

More information (and the files) can be found here: http://cmdrkey.com/cbm/geos/geos1.html

Does GOES work with any C64 emulators for Amiga?

I doubt not... And I wonder if it is even possible to make working d64 copy of GEOS at all...

At least on C64 I couldn't create working (backup) copy of my original GEOS 1.5 disk. Copy WOULD work, but I needed to boot with original 1.5 disk...

Don't know, might be that newer version doesn't have as "strict" copy protection...

But as you can see, they don't even offer "simple d64 download"

They do: http://cmdrkey.com/cbm/geos/geos13.html

But it doesn't seem to work with FrodoPPC.

I remember playing with GEOS on one of the C64 emulators on Amiga - but I do not remember which one was that.

There are D64 images available. I just downloaded them.

At the very least, it works fine in VICE, which is the emulator that is stated it's tested with in the readme. I just attached the disk image, typed LOAD"*",8,1 and BAM, it's GEOS. Complete with using my joystick to move the pointer. (I'll need to remember how to tell it to use a mouse! But that's hardly the fault of this version, or the emulator. I remember being a bit confused trying to configure my original GEOS to use a mouse on a real C64, back in the day.)

Quit complainin'! It's a great, classic software for free. If only more companies were as thoughtful!

Complaining? Me :-)? I wasn't coplaining, not at all. I'm very happy to see Geos being released for free. Back in time, I was amazed watching Geos running on my cousins C 128D. At the time I did have C 64 without disk drive - cassete player only :(. And I still think it is great software.

Anyway - thanks for hints how to make it runnig!
