Call me stupid, and perhaps this is how *everyone* masters their DVD-Rs with dvdrtools, but to actually be compliant, shouldn't the ISO be encapsulated in UDF, as per http://www.burnworld.com/dvd/primer/filesystem.htm?

The manual page for my old? version of mkisofs notes:

-udf Include UDF support in the generated filesystem image. UDF sup-
port is currently in alpha status and for this reason, it is not
possible to create UDF only images. UDF data structures are
currently coupled to the Joliet structures, so there are many
pitfalls with the current implementation. There is no UID/GID
support, there is no POSIX permission support, there is no sup-
port for symlinks. Note that UDF wastes the space from sector
~20 to sector 256 at the beginning of the disk in addition to
the spcae needed for real UDF data structures.

...so it is/was experimental in this particular software, but it's supposed to be part of the spec. Will Windows happily read a purely ISO DVD? Can Mac of both flavors happily automount same?

Oh, and most obviously, can *Amiga* with the usual ISO9660 solutions (pre-OS4/MOS) handle the properly formatted disc?

There's no great harm if we have to 'break' the standard to support interoperability on our own machines, but we should be aware of what we're doing.

Whoops, final note to put out for consideration - the Power Calibration Area on a CD-R contains a limited number of slots; DVD media is probably similar. Under ordinary usage, the 100 provided are far more than you'll ever need, but I've met at least one drive (using the "Seamless Link" brand of buffer underrun recovery) that would apparently recalibrate for each link. Something else to keep in mind.

(I could only make this a problem for myself when trying to duplicate from a 12x reader to the 52x writer at full write speed; in spite of throwing the sense code, discs would still complete and be readable, though of course, at less presumed reliability for lack of OPC... YMMV.)

Why not use makecd (for example) to generate iso's ? Or doesn't it allow creation of big iso's ?

Nice article and website.
However AFAIK it's impossible to create files bigger than 2GB under AmigaOS. So, no bigger than 2GB ISO images!

Thats not strictly true: In tests were were able to make far bigger ISO images such as 4.7GB. An under OS 3.9 the file was actually created but reported as -61Mb !

Obviously when we went to burn this ISO image, DVDRecord complained about the ISO image's integrity and we couldnt complete the burning process :-(

So you have to keep ISO images down to less than 2Gb on the Amiga.

Hum... good question Metalheart...

My questions are these now:

How much good is the handling of a multi session-DVD on Amiga???

Is it possible?
Considering the fact that the AmigaOS sees a multi-sessioned CD, as an entire medium (if I remember well) AND not as a partitioned media (such as HDs).

This fact means that OS must read the entire structure and the entire weight in MB of the medium itself (i.e. whole 650 MB on a HD) with all the problems of that fact implies regarding DVDs (i.e. the DVD will be read a an entire medium and will return an error)

Does it means that we can't burn a DVD over 2Gig, whatever is the situation?

Does this means that the space over 2Gig should being accessed ONLY with hacking tecniques such as considering space of the DVD over 2 Gig as another medium?
