AMIWEST 2004 RELEASE # 1

Announcing AmiWest 2004!

AmiWest 2004 is rolling! While many others have come and gone, AmiWest is still rolling and in its seventh year. The AmiWest committee is proud to announce we are again hosting this year's show in Sacramento, California, at the Inn at the Oaks, a member of the Choice Hotel group. This venue has been completely remodeled upscale to the next level in service and accomodations. Amazingly, the rates are LOWER THAN LAST YEAR and the hotel management much more accomodating, according to our SACC Vice President for AmiWest 2004 operations. The dates are July 24th and 25th, 2004.

This year's theme is "Back to the Roots" since our newly remodeled and upscale venue is our original AmiWest location morphed into a 5-star facility. AmiWest is in it's seventh year and is the only Amiga show produced on the West Coast of the United States. The show has proved very popular for Amiga enthusiasts in the Western United States as well as attracting attenders and exhibitors world-wide.

Space is available for rent to companies, clubs, organizations, and individuals producing Amiga related products and services as well as exhibiting items of interest to Amigans.

If you know of any vendors/suppliers/anything AMIGA-related that you think belongs at this show, let us know and we will contact them. Alternatively, point them to our webpage at www.sacc.org/amiwest.

This weekend event will again showcase the progress that IS the Amiga Community. The "roots" of the Amiga community are still growing and still healthy. We welcome all who will attend in peace and understanding. Where the show is going to be!

AmiWest 2004 will be at the

Inn at the Oaks

2600 Auburn Blvd.

Sacramento California 95821

Reservations Phone 1-916-487-7600 (toll-free line to be announced later) and by snail-mail at the above address.

Sounds like it's going to be a great show! I've already started to research better ways to deliver webcasting services from AmiWest 2004! If anyone has large amounts of bandwidth to host a video steam please contact me!

Shouldn't a video steam be hosted in the hot tub?

woohoo! couple of late nights for me then in July.. unless of course my report site gets a ton of donations, then I can fly out to the show, but realistically that isnt going to happen.

I hope Bill will be doing the sterling job of providing shoutcast and webcams.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, most of those "corrections" were just matters of style. All you really needed to do was change "attended" to "attending" and "company's" to "companies." The double exclamation points are mostly harmless but technically should be reduced to one, and the quotation marks around "wonderful" made it sound like you could have been sarcastic. Otherwise fine. Grammatic Critiques R Us. :)

Will Bill Buck be there trying to steal other's property?

"This plate of wings has always been mine."

"Uhh, no, Bill, it hasn't. It just got to the table."

"I have the documentation to prove it has. Look, look here at the check for dinner. See? It says I ordered dinner, too. Therefore the wings are mine."

"Right, yeah, you ordered dinner too, but not wings. You don't get everything just because you ordered some things off of the menu."

"We'll see about that. I'm betting sooner or later everyone else at the table will back me up and take the wings."

I’m glad to hear this sandy. What a constructive comment you've made. Makes me happy to know your not “trolling the forums” and giving credit were credit is due. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that these shows aren’t the CES in Vegas but that’s not the point. Sure we all would love to have 1000’s of people attend and ton’s of vendors but that’s never going to happen. (at least anytime soon). Bottom line - They put on the best show they can!

So how about we try something I learned back in 2nd grade. “If you don't have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all.”

Sorry but I'm just fed up with "Stupid Posts"

In reply to Comment 21 (sandy):
Well it was pretty disappointing when Compuquick didn't show up in 2003 - was always great to see Randy and his wife, but sales were poor and didn't justify it I think.

In 2003 there were two very important new attendees:

1. Genesi
They rocked the 'flea market' with a whole bunch of people and Peg's. No ''Amigas'' for sale though....

2. Mr Hardware
A new booth selling new 'Amigas'...probably waaay high priced for the 'flea market'

Whatever....the shows are fun, just not profitable for vendors right now I'd guess - someone predicted it would change once OS4 was out....? I have my doubts, can't compete now because it's all about standard PC components...no limited supply/market issues like the custom Amiga old iron.

Doesn't mean the shows aren't FUN though :D

Be there or be...somewhere else

Steve

After last year's turnout @ Amiwest. How can ANY Amiga dealer justify the expense of coming out? From what I heard you could have shot a bullet across the show floor and not hit anyone :( I think its nice to have an Amiga show but the organizers really need to rethink there promotional strategy and get more ppl out there...

No dealers no people... No people no dealers....

So, those claimed Amiga users what needs to be at the show to get you off your buts and make a trip to Cali?

I'm already booked that weekend. San Diego Comic Con... Damn, don't you hate it when geekiness events collide?
