The First LIVECD for Pegasos I, II booting a linux - MOL 0.70
After months of hacking around with knoppix, i've come up with a livecd for pegasos (www.pegasosppc.com).
For the moment it runs a Maconlinux version 0.70 as the main purpose (due to tons of email request).
So you can boot pegasos like a real MAC (OS not included)...
beta state at the moment...
more news soon
check for release at http://uk.geocities.com/david260179
thanks

(This will kill Pegasus, way not get a faster mac) |

I am disappointed. :( |

1. Write and test software on both platforms
2. Avoid financially supporting Bill Buck's personal vendetta
Win-win situation. All amigans get to run my code, I don't have to buy yet another computer, and His Buckness can go take a long walk off a short pier. |

Well, if I find a second hand Peg2 in about six months or so (money's tight right now!), I might end up doing my original plan anyway :) |

The guys doing the new OS/2 released a demo CD containing the full OS/2 distribution for FREE on selected mags. I don't see why Genesi can't do the same. |

Sounds good, can you post a link?
IBM Websphere is based on OS/2.
Interesting community sites:
http://www.websphere.org/
http://www.websphere-world.com/
I wonder if they have a community site similar to ann.lu where people can post anonymously and have pleasant conversations (troll bashing) about which is better... windowsXP or websphere? ;) |

That't why I don't buy anything from micro$oft, if SCO ever sell anything I won't buy that either, and although I like the Peg2 and MOS looks pretty good, I'll do my best to get them through any other (legal) channel than stuffing Bill Buck's war coffers. |

What i have achieved is a bootable linux distro (LIVE) with Maconlinux as the main program, so that pegasos users can run their machine like a real mac!.
I have no interest in morphos .
Anyone want a version for Amigaone, email me
thanks |

So how does that work in practice? Do you boot from the Knoppix CD, and then take it out and put in an OS X CD?
.
"Anyone want a version for Amigaone, email me"
I expect people will. |

Posted by pegxlin DEV on 17-Apr-2004 08:10 GMT | In reply to Comment 13 (Don Cox): hi don,
Yes, with the 'no lock' boot option, you can take out the bootcd , then insert the macosx cd to install.(all the required program files are copyed to ram, thus no need for boot cd, when interchanging cds)
Yes, tons of emails already :-)
Anyone know if there is an update for the amigaone kernel - 2.4.22 is pretty old. |

Can we use X11 stuff as well (KDE/Gnome,...) ? or does it only run MOL ?

So what you have crated is a tiny Linux distribution containing, X-Windows server, MOL, a kernel and some terminal commands? |

Posted by Swoop on 17-Apr-2004 10:28 GMT | In reply to Comment 16 (Kjetil): It may not be news, or technically challenging for those of you who are conversant with Linux, but for those of us without the expertise, or the time to achieve the required level of expertise, this is a much welcomed CD.
With it I will be able to run the mac programs that others keep talking about, without taking time out from my business to do so.
In my limited opinion this would be very useful.

Posted by pegxlin DEV on 17-Apr-2004 11:59 GMT | In reply to Comment 16 (Kjetil): in some respects i agree with you, its nothing special, BUT as nothing like this exists for PPC technology i thought i give it ago at making one.
Plus with my adapted sources of knoppix, ppc users can enjoy LIVECD's :-) |

Leo.
Well to keep it simple, for the time being its MOL only usage.I've added the hwsetup to detect hardware etc, but with MOL it doesnt need it, so any PPC machine (with right kernel) can run this CD :-)
KDE and GNOME etc will be added to my new PegXLin LIVE version.... |

Or, indeed why KMOS / Hyperion can't - most people prepaid for OS4 anyway, or are entitled to a free copy due to owning an A1, so why not just give it away on the next issue of Total Amiga? |

Posted by StAn on 17-Apr-2004 13:27 GMT | Sounds good, but err... can the CD be copied to HD so that people don't have to insert the CD to boot MacOS?
In fact, I wonder what's the use of such a CD. |
