The Stratagus game engine has been ported to MorphOS. You can download the MorphOS version here (700kb). To play a game you need to get some game data (like Warcraft II). For more infos about howto get some datas to play with see the Stratagus mainpage. Here are a few Screenshots of the game play in fullscreen mode Screenshot1, Screenshot2, Screenshot3 and Screenshot4. More binary updates may come (in case of problems). Diffs for people who like to compile on their own (or AOS4 or AROS ports) are included.

:-O

Really nice! :-)

One question: Is Starcraft (my personal *all time favourite* game in this genre) using this engine? I ask because I recall some similarities between that and Warcraft II, but I may be wrong ...

Booohooohooo !!!

I only have the original Macintosh version of WarCraftII.

BTW, what's this "dataset" business ?
And what's that "cvs" command businezz to download the dataset ?
Is that a trick so it isn't easily downloadable ?

In reply to Comment 2 (Ronald St-Maurice):
Well, they DID get rid of Freecraft :) But Stratagus is not Freecraft...
Well, actually Stratagus is sort of a generic game-engine not fixed to the Warcraft data set.

At least in multiplayer all sorts of colors can happen for both Humans and Orc BTW (At least in WC3, but I think to remember it was the same for WC2)

After about 1/2 hour to find how it works, what files are needed, how to convert them to needed format,... I got the following error message:

"Stratagus default config file loading ...

[string "data.wc2/scripts/stratagus.lua"]:260: attempt to call global `AlphaFogOfWar' (a nil value)
stack traceback:
[string "data.wc2/scripts/stratagus.lua"]:260: in main chunk"

No such problem on Windows version with the same data files...

I know, I have updated Stratagus last night again to use CVS as the Stratagus Maintainers suggested me. it's more stable... Please get Wargus from CVS and re-extract the files again with it.

The current update is:

- using Louise's SDL, which is more stable, faster, more accurate than Greco's SDL
- using Stratagus from CVS because it's more stable.

Problems:

- update data with Wargus from CVS
- Louise's SDL crashes on exit (which we have solved some mins ago). New Stratagus update on the way.

Oky.

btw, a small readme at least saying you need to extract data with wargus wouldn't hurt ;) (so linux/win is needed in order to extract data for now)

Leo.

Yes already in the works and new ReadMe as well. Btw: You don't need Windows or Linux to extract the data. Wargus works pretty fine on MorphOS as well :)

Just for the document. I have just updated a new version of Stratagus which works more stable than the other version.

- Better SDL used,
- More stable,
- Unicode stuff works,
- Networking works,
- NO crashes on exit,
- Stratagus compiled from CVS because it's more stable.

Same link for lzx package.
