After buying a window tower, I decided to gather all the Amiga bits and bobs that have been kicking around and build another A1200T.

Very nice project..
i like the trick of putting the motherboard on the long way, and not in the upright position as normal...

ps. do you have a loose connection on your VGA cable :-D

Not bad but some areas need addressed.

The window is too big....who wants to see the metal HD cage??

It`ll also be full of dust in no time, due to the huge holes in the back panel.

Oh...and cover/scrape off the lame USB graphic on the front of the case.

There are not many conversions where the A1200 motherboard is 90 degr. turned !!

hmmm. i think i'll have to give this a 'neat' for inventive creativity.

by mounting it this way around, you can still use the ports (simply use short
M-F cables to break out to rear of PC) AND with a plain 80mm case fan you can blow loads of cool air over the BPPC/BV . something you cant do with the
usual format!

I'd use a IDE buffer of Elbox/Powerflyer for the IDE and keep to short distance
standard IDE cables though...even short round ones would be ideal! dont have long cables. that way lie data corruptions.

Probably not much faster than a sealed case, if the surroundings are dusty and you've got fans pulling air in dust will get inside quite easily. Unless he mounts some "slot coolers" dust will probably just settle on the pcmcia card rather than get inside the case.

This box is basically just a chassis and it's pretty much dust free because any dust that comes in is blown right back out again :)

Actually, many of the homebrew "Just want my A1200 in a tower, no Zorro expansion board" conversions I've seen have taken exactly that approach. The plus side about this mod is, that he was able to find a tower that fits the motherboard properly, so it doesn't have to be cabletied diagonally into the case or anything.

None of the commercial tower kits do it like the original poster, of course, so maybe that's why you think it's unconventional.

You do realize that fans pull in from the inside of the case and push out from the backside of the case don't you? Don't sweep the floor into the back of the case and it'll be fine. Plus with the window you can see if any dust bunnies collect and promptly clean them out.

Actually, what I'd recommend is add a bit of cooling put a small fan on top of the PCMCIA. On fan pulling air in the front and one pushing air out the back should help ensure a bit better cooling. (Not that's it's really an issue to be worried about.)
