I wonder how it compares with the PPC emulation found in Sheepshaver.

I can't wait to emulate OS4 & MorphOS (slowly) on my 10GHz AMD64 machine when I upgrade in a few years.

Now could software like this be adapted to create a VMware like system that runs on the Pegasos? ;)

Awesome! now all we need is a JIT and we can run OS4 *and* MOS on cheap, politics-free hardware :D

x86 hardware which could run PPC emulation+OS4/MOS fast enough would be not cheap :)

The same thing was said about Amiga emulation. Now Ami emulators smoke the original hardware by factors of ten. As will happen with the PPC emulation. Roll on cheap PC hardware, where development marches onward.

It's one thing to emulate a 68040 at 25mhz. It's another to emulate a 1ghz G4. No doubt a quad opteron board with 8gigs of ram and 4 2.2ghz 64bit processors could do it....but how fast and at what cost?

Actually it looks pretty good, you need to play with settings though - problem I am having is I can boot into the OSX 10.3 install fine, but it doesn't find my virtual drive, so I have to work out how to partition the damn thing argghhhh seems pretty quick (JIT) though.

In about five years time... about $500-$1000, ie your basic surf-the-web PC. Moore's law may have been repealed on the Amiga, but not on other hardware :)

'the client will run about 500 times slower than the host'

Wow it's really slow emulation. It is version 0.1 so I'm sure they can make some improvements to speed. A 2Ghz x86 operating as a 2Ghz/500 or 4Mhz PowerPC isn't going to cut it for a permanent Amiga, or any other system, replacement. But, it's a definite thing to watch to see how/if it improves to the point of usability.

there is a mac_ppc emulator for x86 & ppc linux called SheepShaver. I've tried it on my a1200_ppc +debian_30 and it was working (in the archive there is source code for ppc emulator for x86 machines)

Yes there is a Mac emulator for PPC. However, It doesn't run OSX.

In some sources, the stated performance is about 10 Mhz from a PentiumIII @500Mhz.
