AntiWordGUI (68k & MorphOS), AntiWord (MorphOS) : Comment 1 of 15 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Don Cox on 30-May-2004 07:09 GMT | The problems with Word docs are
1. there are many versions, and a Word doc file can even crash Word itself if it is the wrong version
2. most real life Word docs include tables and structured drawings. Simply extracting the text is not much use, in my experience. A typical Word doc is a form that you have to fill in.
The only current Amiga program that supports all the features of a Word doc is Pagestream, and the most useful thing would be a Word to Pagestream file converter. The Pagestream file format is fully documented, unlike the Word format. |

Yes that would be great
>The Pagestream file format is fully documented, unlike the Word format.
Yes but OOo-Word import is quite good.
So it should be possible to learn from it how to do a Pagestream file converter. |

It only extracts the text. We have plenty of programs that can do that. It's the tables and graphics that are the problem.
Remember Word isn't a good word processor, it's a bad DTP program. You need a DTP program to edit or print the doc files.
AmigaWriter is a poor program. It needs a lot of work to bring it up to the standard of a good Amiga program. No work has been done on it for 4 years, AFAIK. |

AntiWordGUI (68k & MorphOS), AntiWord (MorphOS) : Comment 8 of 15 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 30-May-2004 17:29 GMT | In reply to Comment 6 (Don Cox): I have to say it's a pretty good program, but there's a couple of strange design decisions that make it seem worser than it really is. If these faults could be rectified it could be a lot more useful. So it's definitly a good base to go from.
The only problem is that the source is gone (or parts of it). Truly bad! |

Posted by Anonymous on 30-May-2004 17:31 GMT | I tried to run Antiword. Can't get it work!
It complains that it can find the ISO-8859-1 file, even though it
has been installed as per the included instructions (a directory named
'.antiword') |

Posted by Marcin 'Morgoth' Kurek on 31-May-2004 07:16 GMT | In reply to Comment 10 (stefkos): Sic, why you modify this archive contents ? This version looks for conversion tables and fontanes in Resources directory not in .antiword directory. Right files are already in right places, just ubnpack it use, nothing less nothing more. |

Posted by Anonymous on 31-May-2004 08:25 GMT | ....hello?
Did I hear anyone say 'AmiNET' ??
all these many many sites with little bits of software. this is RUINING the experience that AmigaOS always had - one very thorough site from which you could get all your tools and utilities!
Please use AmiNET! |
