This IS a joke, right? No?

Great, now we only need two or three more repositories, and they can be dedicated to serve one file of AOS4 software each! :'P
(And I'll say that the same seems to go for MOS, before the red type of trolls start their usual retarded boohoo-teh-blue-trolls-are-naughty bleating.)

'Since we can't have exclusiveness, then we must at least pretend, dammit!'

I don't think the aim is to take anything away from the Aminet or Amiga Share, it is simply an Aminet-like web interface for OS4 files.

Amiga Share seems to have some good functions like the project sponsorship and multi-platform support, this on the other hand maybe a good place for OS4 users to pick out files they want quickly.

Anyway, give them both a few months to get established and the picture might be a little clearer then.

And if its escaped your attention amigashare has gone down the tubes, so it goes to show that we need more than one place to go for files.

At least some people are doing something positive, stop bleating and do something better yourself.

An Aminet extending solution is almost ready, and yes it is targetted at all amiga clones.

In french, we say "réinventer la roue"...

Aminet is the greatest thing in the Amiga story, your
initiative is a real denigration about the Urban work.

I'm not a blue troll, just an amigaist who still WORKS
with Amiga computer, I'm totaly sick of the actual mentality..

this site looks and feels great, I think. shame that it's OS4 only, remembering that I have a dusty a4000 in need of updated software and using aminet equals finding the needle in the haystack these days. :)

Dont worry we are only having a few technical dificults and will be online again soon enough. We will soon be hosted on our very own dedicated server sitting on a 9Gbit fiber backbone!

Sorry for any inconviences!

for God/Zeus/Alaa/Buddha/Mouhamed/Thor's sake!

cant people use AmiNet? Having dozens of sites trying to do the same job
is soo not a good idea! Okay, its better then having to search through millions of web sites for single projects - but AmiNet is tried/tested
solution and MULTIPLE access methods. NOT just Web. I dont want to be tied to
having to traverse a site with a browser.

Yeah, I don't much see the point of this site when there is Aminet...

Aminet is ok otherwise, but it lacks OS4 and MOS trees. Unfortunately it looks like those will not be added in the near future. Personally I still would like to see Aminet as main Amiga softwre resource, but i have to admit that something has to be done to it.

I think there is a point unless Aminet will be expanded to have OS4 and MOS diretory trees.

There is this note in the frontpage of OS4depot:

"OS4 Depot is a work in progress site and thus all features we have in mind are not yet in place. Such as FTP download, FTP upload, cross uploading to aminet and so on. We'll add things step for step, so be patient while our services slowly mature. Time will tell where we will be going."

I think it sounds quite good if all that will be implemented. That would make OS4 depot look like extension of Aminet, not replacement to it.

In reply to Comment 14 (miksuh):
Well, Aminet also doesn't have an OS3.1 tree, OS3.5 tree, or an OS3.9 tree, etc...

There is a readme field "Requires:". If it's an OS4.0 application, you would just put:

Requires: OS4.0

Easy. Same as has been done for OS3.9 apps, etc. This is a much better way than having a whole separate tree for each revision of the OS. This way there is only one directory for each type of software, regardless of how many OS revisions are made.

Surely that is more logical?

AmiNet also has MIRRORS

if one site goes, there are others. if os4depot server dies, its dead.
