Sort of like companies making money selling Dell and Windows XP machines bought at Circut City or some place? Microsoft, Dell, Circut City, Intel, Mcafee or Norton (which ever Dell 'forces' you to have included), what ever company that Dell is using to manufacture their northbrideg chips, etc, etc...

They take rebadging to a whole new level ;) It starts as a Teron, it morphs (oops, bad word) into an Eytech AmigaOne and then it becomes a C= Amiga. That gives three layer board a whole new meaning. How thick are the QA labels on that board? Do they get into the way of the heatsink?
Commodore to sell AmigaOne : Comment 11 of 53ANN.lu
Posted by Lando on 14-Jun-2004 21:08 GMT
Surely it would make more sense for Tulip simply to buy the boards direct from Mai themselves and pay the $100/board or whatever to AInc for the "Amiga" part of the name than going through another reseller like Eyetech?

If this is true then I doubt Tulip would be selling the boards - they don't sell components but full Desktop PC's and Laptops. If they were to start licensing the boards they'd most likely build them into full desktop systems and sell them as C= Amiga desktops.

First, Amiga Inc and the Teron destroyed everything positive with the
Amiga name, and now they are gonna stain the Commodore brand too? Why
can't they just let it Rest in Peace and let us preserve our nice
memories about these once so glorious platforms?

But this is surely not true anyway, it doesn't make sense in any way.

The original company is long dead, but the brand and logo are still owned and in use (by a Dutch company IIRC).

nice pack of information about the "Dutch company": http://www.tulip.com/aboutus/corp_article.asp?nid=149

In Dutch, sorry ... well ... numbers are easy to read. :)

( small company in computer industry but it's huge when measured in Amiga scale... ;) )

IMHO: they seem grazy enough to distribute NG Commodore Amigas....

Ever company make profits on different thing - Microsoft on Windows, Dell on whole computer, Intel on procesors, Norton on system utilities. But on Amiga side we will have 5 companies that make profits on motherboard (Amiga Inc, KMOS, Commodore, Eyetech and MAI), and 4 that make profits on OS (Amiga Inc, KMOS, Commodore, Hyperion). And don't forget sales numbers. Milions vs hundrets.

>Ever company make profits on different thing - Microsoft on Windows, Dell on >whole computer, Intel on procesors, Norton on system utilities.

Microsoft does pay loyalties/refer to third parties(patents holders) e.g. just look in your IE6's about info. MS's disk tools(defrag) was made by "Executive Software International, Inc".

>But on Amiga side we will have 5 companies that make profits on motherboard
>(Amiga Inc, KMOS, Commodore, Eyetech and MAI), and 4 that make profits on OS
>(Amiga Inc, KMOS, Commodore, Hyperion). And don't forget sales numbers.
>Milions vs hundrets.

One should break down the roles
1. KMOS, OS 3.X patents (core services).
2. Amiga Inc, "Amiga" name brand.
3. MAI, motherboard reference design originator.
4. Hyperion, OS programming group.
5. Eyetech, funds motherboard constructions i.e. funds and contracts to third. party board manufactures(some East Asian fab).
6. Commodore, brand of PCs.

On X86 world,
1. HP-Compaq, cross license deals concerning DEC's VMS and Windows NT(core services). Microsoft also license other IP technologies (e.g. refer to IE6's about).
2. BIOS licenses e.g. Award.
3. NVIDIA's nForceI/II/III motherboard, motherboard reference design originator.
4. Microsoft, OS programming group and brand name.
5. Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS, FIC, Leadtek, ECS, Abit, Albatron and etc, funds and contracts out or inhouse build motherboards.
6. Dell, Gateway. Wallmart, HP-Compaq and etc, brand of PCs.

With X86 side; it can get complicated since some X86 based companies has tighter vertical integration e.g. Intel and ATI. Your statement indicates to me that you are simply anti-Eyetech/Hyperon/Amiga/KMOS group.

Ok, I can agree with you. But it seems that you forgot to read last two sentences from my comment. Sales. If we have product, which is sold in milions, we can involve a lot of companies - small profits per one computer make a very big number, when it's sold in milions. But we have a lot of companies which are making (or trying to make) profits on computer which is sold in few houndrets. As a result we have an overpriced AOne. But you think, that it would be better,if this very small amount of money, that is made on AOne would go to one or two companies? Prices could drop down, companies would made bigger profits, etc.
