Doesn't virtual PC emulate an x86-PC from the initial boot sequence? If you've got an AROS x86 disk image you should always have been be able to boot it shouldn't you?

That's hardly news.

That video that was released some time ago was captured using an OS X utility with AROS running in VirtualPC.

Virtual PC is an x86 emulator. The interesting thing about this news item is (a) AROS is getting some attention from outside the Amiga crowd, and (b) Mac owners can test AROS. I tried it on the Windows port of VirtualPC about a year and a half ago and it wouldn't work.

In reply to Comment 3 (Gareth Knight):
Out of interest, would AROS support the "acceleration features" of the
VirtualPC, like the pretend network card, retargeted graphics card, etc.,
rather than just use VESA calls?

In reply to Comment 4 (Neko):
That could be done, but programmers who can write drivers are few and far between. The ones in the project are quite busy with other things as well, such as me. Would you know were to find specifications on the emulated hardware I might give it a shot atleast.

In reply to Comment 4 (Neko):
I run AROS on VirtualPC (WinXP).

It works great (faster than Win98/2000) on VPC!

It supports the following modes:

AROS VBE 640x480 16bpp
AROS VBE 800x600 16bpp
AROS VBE 1024x768 16bpp
AROS VBE 640x480 32bpp
AROS VBE 800x600 32bpp
AROS VBE 1024x768 32bpp
AROS VGA 640x480 4bpp
AROS VMWare

I run it at AROS VBE 1024x768 32bpp

Only problems I have is the OS pauses every few seconds when
I have booted from the CD image.

Does not pause when booting from the floppy image.

Hopeing that someday AROS will be funcional enough for me to dedicate
a real machine to run it full time.

For this to happen it needs:
1. Networking (internet)
2. Internet browser
3. Ability to boot from hard disk
