DOSBox is a DOS emulator that uses the SDL library. It emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics and SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card.
Changes in MorphOS version:
- improved stability
- some speed increment
RunDOS is a tool which allow you to start DOS software by clicking on the icon on Ambient. Now you can set the option to quit DOSBox after quit from the program you started with RunDOS.
You can get the archives from here and here.

Awesome! Something similar for UAE would be truly awesome as well :) |

Posted by Jupp3 on 20-Jun-2004 10:53 GMT | In reply to Comment 2 (redrumloa): The speed depends on what you emulate...
The Settlers works nice on G4, it's playable even in svga (But the scrolling IS slow...)
Also Laser Squad, Lotus 3 and Skyroads work very nicely, and that's about all I've tried :-) |

DOSBox 0.61 R3 and RunDOS 1.2 : Comment 7 of 18 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Bill Hoggett on 20-Jun-2004 14:03 GMT | Has anyone bothered to inform the DOSBox people that (a) their links are broken, and (b) the Amiga68k version has been dropped?
At the moment, their information is wrong - presumably because no one has kept them informed regarding the port - and Amiga68k users end up looking all over the net for a version which does not exist. |

DOSBox 0.61 R3 and RunDOS 1.2 : Comment 9 of 18 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Bill Hoggett on 20-Jun-2004 15:25 GMT | In reply to Comment 8 (Golem): I could, but all I would feel entitled to do is upload the old 68k port to Aminet - stating that it is no longer supported in the readme -, and contact the DOSBox people telling them their link is broken and should therefore be removed. I could also tell them about the old unsupported port having been uploaded to Aminet.
Since I'm neither a MorphOS user nor part of the porting team, I would not want to get involved in asking the DOSBox people to update their MorphOS port information. That's the job of the porting team, right?
That's the point I'm making: it's time for those who happily use open source to port to their OS, whatever OS that may be, to recognise their responsibilities to the whole open source community and give something back, even if it's just up-to-date information on their ports.
Take even the announcement above: no link to the homepage, or the original project homepage, just a couple of direct links to the binary archives. Please folks, get your acts together and show a little competence, then perhaps the non-Amiga community may actually take this scene seriously once more, rather than just regard it as something to be laughed at.
This is not intended as a flame, but as simple constructive advice. |

Actually, I can't even do that as I don't have the source code, and so I can't redistribute it since it is GPL'd. |

Posted by Stefan Blixth on 20-Jun-2004 17:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 2 (redrumloa): Hmm, Well I have a Pegasos2 (G4) so I can't directly answer that question =)
But I find FastTracker2 useable w/o fiddling around with frameskip here.
You probably could use it on a slower CPU with some tuning aswell. |

Posted by Anonymous on 21-Jun-2004 02:47 GMT | In reply to Comment 11 (Stefan Blixth): Uhhuh, try loading a 16 channel FastTracker 2 module and play it at 22050Hz or even 11025Hz? It doesn't even run full speed on my Pentium 4! |

DOSBox 0.61 R3 and RunDOS 1.2 : Comment 18 of 18 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 26-Jun-2004 07:02 GMT | Us 68k users (esp. Amithlon) really need a port of DosBox 0.60+, because the 0.58 version runs very few games (as it lacks emulation of the protected mode). |
