Someone should port Skelmir's CEE-J Java virtual machine to Amiga OS/MorphOS so we can finally have java!

The lack of Java on Amiga has nothing to do with there being no JVMs to port. On the contrary; a programmer wishing to bring Java to Amiga is somewhat spoilt for choice in this regard! The problem has simply been a lack of programmers with the skill AND motivation to actually port the things.

JAmiga does look quite promising, though.

The JAmiga team is currently running some sort of bounty scheme. Hopefully donations will accellerate development.

Especially the graphics classes (AWT). They have to be written from scratch to run fast on an Amiga - it isn't just a recompile. This is a big job.

I am hopeful the JAmiga team will succeed.

Wow! Skelmir! I know that guy; he used to be one of our programmers in Amsterdam, where I would irritate the hell out of him talking about Amiga (he programmed Macs). And now I see his name here on ANN.

WEIRD!

Ok okok... sorry about this. I was so surprised that I had to reply.

Any chance of asking him to help (In a non irritating way) with the JAmiga project. I presume he is an experienced PPC programmer?

> Compatible with JDK 1.1.8, J2ME CLDC, MIDP, & PersonalJava specifications

In other words: completely useless for normal desktop or server use. This isn't better than the Tao JVM, which is also useless for anything but embedded stuff.
