I have moved to a new location with a new cable provider called Adelphia.
While switching channels I had the surprise to get a workbench screen on channel 20.
On the title bar I can read ""Copyright 1985-1991 Commodore-Amiga, Inc. All Rights Reserved."
Nothing to fancy on the workbench: A volume drive and a big icon "BT2".
I guess that is a titling application that must be running with a genlock. It looks like the Amiga was reseted and that nobody noticed.
I will try it out later to see what it really does on this channel.

Posted by Joe "Floid" Kanowitz on 27-Jun-2004 00:44 GMT | Well, we know the "TV Guide Channel" (egh, what'd they call themselves before that?) have migrated away... or at least, tried to. A slot around channel 20 makes me think of a community news/announcements channel, and I'd wager there are plenty of those around still running on even pre-Amiga hardware. (Hey, the C64 had video out, what more do you need?)
BT2 would be Broadcast Titler 2, I believe, and depending on application, they may or may not be using it with a genlock. (Depends if it's subtitling the local zoning hearings, where you'd need video overlay, or just scrolling the time of the local church potluck or peewee football game for months on end.)
Still, always good to know someone's still using! |

Posted by Darrin on 27-Jun-2004 06:01 GMT | I remember my local cable guide had a "Guru Meditation" a few years ago. They seem to have changed the hardware now so they can bombard me with more adverts as I try and access the remaining 20% of the screen to see what's on TV. |

Posted by Anonymous on 28-Jun-2004 01:38 GMT | I don't know if they still do, but I remember Optus cable TV used to run it's community TV station using an Amiga..
Can anyone tell me if there are any other modern uses of a Amiga in TV-land?
Wouldn't mind a tale of a AmigaOne at work, either :) |
