They do ask for general support thru e-mail to see if it's worth to
build it again from scratch, let's make feel them what "community"
means.

Whether amigart.com was self-hosted or hosted on a service provider, there should have been backups of the site and better security procedures followed. I used to work for a web development company.. getting your site hacked into is a daily part of doing business online, thats just the way it is. You can not start-up or even run an online business without taking into account some kind of security procedures.

This is very sad. I hope they start up a new site. My friend's site was hacked briefly a few weeks ago, thankfully I had a backup on my machine to fix it. We can't let a few lamers spoil it for everyone else.

Was this specifically an attack on an Amiga site, or just a routine attack such as happen to all insecure sites?

What server OS was in use, and was it properly set up?

I notice from the message on the site AmigArt were using PHPNuke - this, I believe, probably was the weak link.

It is what Amiga.Org used to used and, they got hacked on several occasions - and is the reason why they went over to Xoops.

In reply to Comment 5 (Andy Mills):
One of the reasons phpnuke is targetted asmuch as it is is because the tables are well known/documented.

My own site (kefren.be) has been defaced 3 times sofar, but luckally for me, i do take regular backups for the dbase, and ever since i started reorganising my dbase structure it's been fine (knocking on wood)

Hope they get through this, as i know how devastating a hacked site can be.

Cheers

well its not right what some childish pranksters did to the site.

that doesn't change the fact that amigart ceased to be relevant for most of the community since a long time ago. these constant ploys for attention get old.

Sad to see, but where's the problem? Simply reload from your most recent backup, and away you go.

Of course, changing away from buggy-as-hell open-source crap software might also be a good move (note the combination they were using...)

Don't let the lameassed skript-kiddies get you down, just restore your backups and carry on the excellent work. Seriously.

Why the heck didn’t you backup??
Don’t blame hackers that you couldn’t restore!
What if the server hardware died? Would you be blaming the PC manufacturer???

No matter what OS platform you use…. It is a UNIVERSAL procedure to backup IMPORTANT DATA regularly!

Seems to me a bit strange that they want personal e-mail.

Why don't just organize a survey?

My e-mail is a personal thing.

And by the way.

Keep alive an Amiga news site nowadays is a matter of faith and passion.

Or you are an Amiga fan or just you doesn't...
