It will be interesting, whether KMOS has other projects besides OS4, or OS4 goes wireless. Hope a transcript will be available. :) Sounds interesting!

In reply to Comment 1 (Emeric SH):
IMO all operating systems will need to work with wireless connections that can connect and disconnect at any time without warning.

Likewise all storage media, including hard drives, should be treated as removable or hot-pluggable.

Older OSes tend to assume fixed networks and permanent storage media.

In reply to Comment 4 (cheesegrate):
Exactly. No reason why some Pegasos/MorphOS developers couldn't show up and schedule a meeting with him and get futher information on the future direction of KMOS, amiga OS 'mobile', and so on and so forth. ;)

In reply to Comment 6 (Darth_X):
Because it for starters is a local meeting for local bussinesses, its a speach about wireless communication, neither amiga nor pegasos are mentioned in the press release.

In reply to Comment 2 (Don Cox):
According to my experience, also latencies become increasingly important when high quality, realtime, interactive video and sound are transferred over packet switched connections. Even if in everyday computing things, like task switching times, are irrelevant, they suddenly become relevant ... otherwise the implementation will be difficult ... if not impossible.

In reply to Comment 8 (priest):
All true.

I don't really know how latency in AOS4 and MorphOS compares with Linux 2.6.

SUMMER BREAKOUT 2004 : Comment 11 of 15ANN.lu

"Garry will discuss the potential effect of broad, wireless communication access on commercial, social, and political issues. The emphasis will be on the impact of technology rather than on the technology itself. That is, non-technical for everyone to understand and be prepared ... for the future!"

Goodness gracious - fleecy's writing his speech for him!

Actually they'd be a good illustration of what his talk is about (from the summary):

"Product marketing is already changing due to the proliferation of Web blogs and other targeted and focused technologies. Program creators and content developers are quickly gaining the ability to directly distribute programming to the consumer. Already the desirable 15 - 25 year old demographic is more likely to access content via computer than television."

What's a better example of this than Amiga fans constantly visiting news sites and forums? There are lots of anecdotes for Mr. Hare to draw from involving even his very own KMOS and its Amiga IP, though he'll probably save them for the informal bantering after the presentation. ("...Early the next morning we got going. The work group asked what I would like to see. Proving I had no idea what I was talking about, I asked for every post on every board from the November 2000 date of the original agreement. There was a very long pause.....We settled on a little different method....The floor of my office was covered with folders within the first two days." -- from the interview)
