What about improved AGA? What about 800x600, 72Hz on your low end Amiga? What about this beeing news 1992. Makes your dreaming doesn't it? Find out what I'm talking about.
Was searching for the memory bandwidth of AGA and found this on google. A friend was complaing about a few new radeons having 128-bit memory access so I wanted to show him something to compare with.

Maybe it could extend lifetime by an year or two, but PC went to hicolor/true color with ultrafast blitter long long ago. Wondering how much it would cost and how much of research costs could be recovered from Amiga sales. Looking now 10 years backwards it seems Amiga was losing the game. |

Posted by Graham_NLI on 10-Jul-2004 11:11 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (itix): Well, the chipset was meant to support 1024x768 and 1280x1024 in the higher end configurations.
PC graphics card blitters have been pretty basic for the most part. Fast, yes. Functional ... not as much as even the OCS blitter.
Most PCs in 1996/1997 were being run at 800x600 by their owners, in 24-bit even in 1997. However this AAA chipset would probably have emerged in 1995. It would have been a little ahead, resolution wise, and way ahead in terms of functionality and flexibility. |

Why? Didn't you read this on the bottom of the first linked website?
"Gateway/AI would have been insane to continue AAA. It would have been
revolutionary if released in 1990, pretty cool in 1992, ok in 1994 (the
earliest it could have been released on the schedule we had, with a
healthy Commodore). Today, it would be a horribly expensive thing with
less graphics performance than any old everyday $10 PCI-based SVGA
graphics chip. There is simply no point whatsoever. And that's spelled
"HAYNIE"...
- Dave Haynie, Team Amiga ML, 3/5/99." |

Posted by Damien McKenna on 11-Jul-2004 01:06 GMT | Remember that the AAA was originally to be released in the late 80's, which would have blown away everything else on the market. Unfortunately C= upper management were idiots and thought that DOS was a better tool to do work with than a preemptively multi-tasking easy-to-use OS running on powerful, affordable hardware. To paraphrase Booke in Firefly, "There's a special part of hell reserved for [idiot upper management]".
