Just in case you didn't noticed:: 'Crisot' (the same guy who released the 'pegasos in the toilet' video some time ago, about we laught a lot) released a video which shows current status of OS4 (please check the previous posting here on ann.lu). I have watched this video now again and again and it's normal to come to the conclusion that it's faked. No, not the content, but the speed. The framerate is not correct/realtime, it was made faster. You can spot this easily by watching the mouse movements of the user for example.

Is OS4 so bad that's required to release a video which is 'faked' in such way? I don't think so. And yes, I agree that the Prerelease isn't "the fast thing" i expected to get for my A1.

It makes me a little bit sick how some users are operate to spread 'propaganda'. Isn't it bad enough already that OS4 is so much behind the competition in same market. Now MorphOS users laugh at me for beeing a loyal amiga user. :-\ I'm already happy with the Prerelease, but I hope thing will become a lot faster, but such video is useless.

This is a request to all: please keep such stuff out of this community. When you release a video then release a video which shows true facts. It's from absolutly no use to 'lie' by publishing false information. In the end the normal user is the only stupid.

Crisot, release a proper version of your video to stop this! Thanks. @kemp:
Sorry for posting over anonymizer, but i have reasons to keep my IP/ identity secret for now. Thanks for your understanding. But I feelt it is required to bring this to public discussion. :\

Offcourse it could be fake but I somehow doubt that anyone would bother making a fake video :)

OS4 is really FAST when native PPC code is implemented in the critical areas where the pre-release uses emulated 68K code.
I have seen the beta versions myself (not long ago) and therefore don't doubt the video is real.

Hopefully this post will dissapear along with the original news item, claiming (not proving) that Crisot faked the video.
How about only making it posibble for registered users to post news to ANN?

video is fake. You definitely don't know Crisot. He just types and
clicks faster than his own shadow.

Too bad he doesn't code anything anymore... (now THAT is flamebait :)

Do you think this video is fake as well? Well, I don't. This "news" item is pure flamebait, the very kind that makes the spine of these "red vs blue" flamewars. It's a completely baseless accusation towards Crisot and a pathetic attempt to discredit the progress of AmigaOS4 development. In the recent climate, I'd be surprised if people did not fake evidence on both sides. Honesty has long since stopped being valued by many advocates on either side.

Personally, I wouldn't trust any evidence that is not verifiable or was not produced in front of neutral witnesses.

I think you need to look again if you think this is faked, or have your eyes checked at a doctor. Btw, if I'm not mistaken, Crisot will release another movie soon, with much better quality (real camera as opposed to a webcam) and with something to prove that it isn't faked. This *IS* how fast OS4 is.. and if you don't believe that.. well, that's up to you. You'll see soon enough anyway.

Well, since the crisot video is flickering so horribly it's hard to
tell imo. What can be seen compared to the os4-party video is that on
crisot's video, opening a window with lots of icons is considerably
faster than in the os4-party video. Also, solid windowresize appears
to be faster, but this is hard to tell because of the horrible
flicker.

Since Crisot is known for his little "jokes" I wouldn't be surprised
if he made a video where every other frame is removed or so, but it's
kind of ruined in that case as in this quality the stuff that would
matter (update speed) is quite hard to get an impression of anyway.

Watching the two videos again I think Crisot's video is not faked at
all. It's just the bad quality which makes some things look better
than on the high quality video, eg hiding slow updates of realtime
resized windows, hiding the flicker when moving lots of icons, etc.

Anyway, good to see some progress, and if I don't misremember I said
about one year ago that I thought it would probably take about one
year to get graphics and intuition ported, so it seems my judgement is
not that bad. ;-)

I would refrain myself from doing any kinds of comparisons at this point and just appreciate the fact that they are making progress, even if we all would have wanted it to be finished yesterday.

Sammy boy, it's clear that you have direct interest in Aos4, because your words are similar to some other one pronunced in 2001 ...
Now please, on what technical base can you say that something USABLE and NATIVE and STABLE, we'll be release by Hyperion?
In 2005?
In 2006?

Go out and learn who has got a brain (really) here on ANN.
For example go in the posts done in 2001 where SOME cute Aos4 guyz declared with Ben Herman that "Aos4 wil be out in 2 months". Then read my post or TaketheGM etc ... I said in 2001 "If ever an Aos4 will be created (I doubt) it will be release not before 2005"
Now before you continue to LIE assuming that CRITICAL componets like 68k emu, Gfx subsystem, I/O subsystem (and DOZENS of other things that Aos4 alpha LACKS COMPLETELY), conncects your brain and repeat:"I have to THINK"

________________

I repeat here what is for me the only ground on witch we have to mesure the real "speed" of Aos4 beta.: in an open show an Aone-G3 with a Pegasos2-G3 and the good bench Sysspeed.

I can only repeat that actually, with the AVAIABLE Aos4 alpha, P2+Mos is from 5 to 400 times faster in ALL tests (with some toys like Resize Windows under Intuition tests that under Aos4 alpha on a G3 + Ati 9200 are slower than on a Blizzard PPC with a permedia cards ... but there are ppl so ignorant to not accept that after 3 years of devepopment someone IS ate the level of Mos1.0 ... and I'm also optimistic! Mos1.0 was COMPLETELY NATIVE PPC code, AOS4 NO).

If you had compared you would have noticed that the os4-party one performs considerably worse than what is apparently so with the 1 month old video from crisot...

The reason for the faking speculation is that there is some parts with incredibly accurate mouseclicks at high speed in there .. most people when "speed-mousing" will move the pointer to the near vincinity of your target quite quickly, but then slow down to "home in", but maybe crisot has superhuman abilities in this area, what do I know?

I changed my mind again. I think it's very likely to be faked, in that
it should be played back in 15fps rather than 30fps. Just try for
yourselves and see.. this way it performs like it does in the other
video and the user interaction is more normal.

Well.. just play it back in 15fps and in 30fps and judge for
yourselves, after you've seen the os4-event video.. I think that makes
it rather obvious. Anyway, I think it was funny. :-)

I'm not blind, although that video surely could make you blind if you watched it too many times (aaargh, the flicker!), just sceptical to any claims made by crisot due to previous claims and actions by him .. also the movements, accuracy and performance look much more natural and true to the os4-party one if you slow the video down, but again, it could just be crisot's superhuman abilities, in which case I'd want him on my team in a Quake match against bigfoot... ;)

Still think it is a fake? Well, check the loading speed of IBrowse. Here
IBrowse loads in around 1 second which matches the avi more or less ok. If the
avi was faked, the loading speed would be faster.

2 things:
* The os4-event video was done with gfx and mui being m68k while this video was
done using ppc native gfx and MUI.
* What is funny is that you are going through all this hazzle trying to 'prove'

By Jove, you're right! Now even the screen flicker seems more natural. And the mouse handling still doesn't look slow at all.

Though I'm sure it was just a "mistake" when doing the XVID encoding. That the playback duration of the movie was mysteriously cut in half compared to Real Time is something anyone could have missed... Right? ;')

Also, it's not that obvious. It flickers so horribly that it's hard to
see what's going on. The most noticeable thing is the speed of the

poor quality.

Anyway, I think Crisot should debunk it himself. At least he did step
up and admit he did that toilet-flushing video and explain that he
didn't really ruin any hardware even though it appeared so. If he
does, I still think this is funny, especially when noticing the
reactions (both from MOS and OS4 supporters :).
