Just in case you didn't noticed:: 'Crisot' (the same guy who released the 'pegasos in the toilet' video some time ago, about we laught a lot) released a video which shows current status of OS4 (please check the previous posting here on ann.lu). I have watched this video now again and again and it's normal to come to the conclusion that it's faked. No, not the content, but the speed. The framerate is not correct/realtime, it was made faster. You can spot this easily by watching the mouse movements of the user for example.

Is OS4 so bad that's required to release a video which is 'faked' in such way? I don't think so. And yes, I agree that the Prerelease isn't "the fast thing" i expected to get for my A1.

It makes me a little bit sick how some users are operate to spread 'propaganda'. Isn't it bad enough already that OS4 is so much behind the competition in same market. Now MorphOS users laugh at me for beeing a loyal amiga user. :-\ I'm already happy with the Prerelease, but I hope thing will become a lot faster, but such video is useless.

This is a request to all: please keep such stuff out of this community. When you release a video then release a video which shows true facts. It's from absolutly no use to 'lie' by publishing false information. In the end the normal user is the only stupid.

Crisot, release a proper version of your video to stop this! Thanks. @kemp:
Sorry for posting over anonymizer, but i have reasons to keep my IP/ identity secret for now. Thanks for your understanding. But I feelt it is required to bring this to public discussion. :\

I'm not 'stirring shit', I see a fairly serious accusation leveled at a dedicated group of people, which has been proved to be false. Pretty much anywhere in the world one is allowed to confront their accuser, yet this particular individual wants to sit in the shadows and shout accusations. In fact, he's so focused on not being identified that he used an anonymyser when trying to get this posted as a news item, contrary to ann's posting rules. On top of that he had the temerity to ask that the rules be bent just for him (I'm surprised that Christian agreed). Damn right I want to know who he is.

I have to agree with you here. This poster deliberately spun this story as being so important that it had to be brought to our attention, plus he suggests that he is such an important insider that he cannot allow his IP to be made public (or have enough spare time to nip down to the nearest Cybercafe). No doubt he fears that at any moment several black KMOS/Amiga Inc/Hyperion/Eyetech combat helicopters could appear overhead and a platoon of heavily armed special operatives could descend upon him!!!

Blaitant trolling like this is expected from certain individuals, but the ones that have been participating in the latest attacks (and Amon-RE, you're NOT paranoid) at least display their IP's along side their ignorance and feebly disgusied agendas (and you know who you all are). ;-)

So, will the real BS spreader please step forward... Cheesegrate perhaps?

Regarding the video, I still find it hard to believe that the speed is real, at least from what I see in my lame PeeCee at work. My reflexes are not bad and I certainly know rather well my current Workbench environment after using and configuring it for more than 10 years. Crisot's mouse movement and decision making are too good to be true (even if choices were random), especially since observing that icons and windows are not that well organised. Looks like (s)he is Matrix's Neo.

Nevertheless, even if the fps were boosted (intentionally or not), the estimated responsiveness and speed after normalisation would be still satisfactory for me. Fake or not, DMA or not, I don't pay that much attention to unofficial videos and posts these days. I am an Amiga user for too long; I can easily acknowledge that AmigaOS speed and PPC performance were never issues for common tasks. What we really need is applications. Development support, richer, well-documented and more versatile APIs are desperately needed. Amiga Inc. realised that 5 years ago and AmigaDE was in fact an interesting idea but they failed to deliver. Now, we are at the sad postion that the hardware must be sold in bunches first (even running linux) if we ever want any future development for the platform. Mini ITX boards and embedded devices seem our only chance if we want an Amiga for more than just retro computing.

The next five years are going to be interesting with M$ expected to lose some ground, Sun once again focusing on "Java Desktop" and the industry preparing for the big convergence where desktop PCs are finally replaced at home by more clever devices and are re-named "Workstations" for those few who want a machine for multimedia creativity or development. I'd love to see the Amiga platform and community playing a better role than just struggling for survival, pointlessly hanging around or trolling around. "Reunion" is the keyword.

So? I was wrong. Things like that happen. In 2001, as I explained before, things looked different, and the plan was different (going with WarpOS instead of writing a new kernel).

There you have it. I admit it. I was wrong, and everyone that said it would be delayed was right. But as soon as you start producing anything else but crap postings on ANN, we can have a talk again about schedules, engineering in general, and software development in specific.

Hmm... please, elaborate. Are you saying it took you 3 years to write a PPC Exec replacement? I don't recall so. You are spending time converting 68k code to PPC (despite your (or your bro's, I always get confused) support for Hare's claim that AmigaOS is portable by definition), fine tuning it, overcoming HW problems, and so on... how could WarpOS possibly have eliminated all these problems? Besides, if WarpOS would have let you come out with AOS4 3 years ago, then surely it would have been a much better choice?!

You know what I think, Mr. Frieden, I think you need to invent something more credible.

1. Hyperion already said that the reason why they didn't go with WarpOS was that they found the performance unacceptable (since they are obviously planning on selling games for OS4, performance is very important for them)
2. The reason why they've taken three years is because large parts of OS3 were written in BCPL and 68K assembler. I bet that even the C parts had a lot of SAS/C specific stuff in them and would not compile under gcc. Those had to be rewritten in portable C. So that's why NOW they can claim it's portable. BCPL and 68K asm is not.

But you already knew that, because it's been discussed to death. You just want to say something negative, and it's good to see that you're running out of topics.
