I've just setup a quick WiP page on my website to allow me to keep everyone up-to-date with my progress on the Instant Messenger application I'm writing.

Currently there are only a few screenshots running on OS4, but I hope to add to the features and progress reports as time, and progess, goes on.

I currently use Jabber (on MorphOS) but i have to say this one looks much better so far =) keep up the work and make sure it works on MorphOS as well :).

This looks awesome. I currently use Jabberwocky, but would love a direct client to get rid of jabber server woes.

Wow, I didn't think an ICQ plugin would be so popular. I think I'll beaver away on that tomorrow. Will help with the development I suppose if I can test the client handling as many protocols as I can throw at it.

I use ICQ, MSN, AIM, MSN, Yahoo and Jabber (the latter by necessity rather than choice).

rather than implement all the different protocols yourself, why not take a look over the gaim sources and steal a few bits from there. If you build the protocol parts as libs I think you can link against them without making your code GPL if you don't want to :).

(OT: It's running on OS 3.9 + some m68k OS 4.0 components). Gah! It's got
Anti-aliased fonts and new GUI, I wish I could have this, too. Amithlon and
WinUAE should be able to run it fast enough. Would be enough to spruce up

Looks very good. I know it's early days yet, but will it support graphic smilies (emoticons) and "xxxx (user) is typing a message" type functionality like Mico$oft Messenger does?

How about customised fonts and colours (including those specified by the other party)?

Yes, the message window I've been working on supports:

+ Graphical Smilies (can be switched off)
+ <xxx> is typing a message
+ Font colours and sizes

In addition to ICQ-support in future I would suggest to seriously think about supporting IRC in the way of Miranda ICQ.

I think that it would be a good idea to add a feature like "block all contacts of this group". File transfer would be great too. Avatars, Emoticons and preview of images when you transfer a file would be nice too.

But I want it now! :-)

It would be really cool Daniel if you could maybe keep a blog on your website keeping us eager Amigian's up2 date with the latest developments?

You could maybe even put some source code on your webpage and explain what it does? I know this would help a lot of OS3/OS4 newbie-coders who are still finding their way through the OS!

Hmm, that's quite a good idea :-) Helping people with examples of source code. I must say, I've had to pretty much, painfully, work a lot of this out my self.

I did get some help along the way but a lot of the time I've found out things myself, buying the RKM of eBay, hunting for days for examples because some people in the know seem to think you're not worthy because you don't know as much as them and thus ignore you (not mentioning any specific mailing lists or groups of people).

Anyway, I'll be keeping people more up to date tomorrow (depending when I get up :-)) as to my progress... I've spent the last two days coding the ICQ plugin, what a bitch it is, but I've successfully logged onto the service so I'm online with Epistula and ICQ, not that it's much use at the moment :-)

Your software will fill a big void in Amiga(and hopefully MorphOS)-software. I can't believe it took this long time to get a decent messenger :)

Jabberwocky, is nice but the Jabber Servers sucks big! Most of the time you don' t have access to ICQ, MSN, AIM. And Jabber lacks of featuers, like filetransfer to ICQ and others works only with the Jabber network.
Epistula looks great and i think it will be the best Messenger for AOS/MOS!
