Just the usual trolling. Garry looks like someone who could contribute immense value to the AmigaOS platform and be of importance to the Amiga developer community and so has become a target for the usual suspects.

You're joking, right? That's way too ridiculous to be taken seriously.

As you're not cc'ed in their communications, you wouldn't know if they've apologized to Dale Rahn or not. If you mean a public apology, that would be up to Genesi. After the way they've been treated (Mitch Parker's unjustified jumping to conclusions and subsequent flaming being one of many examples), I don't think they particularly need to make any public apologies. Anyway, you know a lot of people would just suspect a Genesi apology to be some kind of evil manipulation. ;-)

Hmm, I always found the "logic bomb" business questionable (even as some of Genesi's continued self-destruction at that time started to make it seem more plausible ;)), so kudos to Mitch for setting the record straight.

[Hey, an organization organized enough to pull that off would be organized enough to provide a contractor with specs not to spin his wheels on their dime... but if it had to be learned the hard way, hopefully it won't be forgotten.]

Do companies usually make a public apology for something that is a private matter between them and a former consultant? I don't think so.

Anyway, you are providing a good example of the futility of Genesi doing anything like that. The thread topic (ignoring the lame part about "interesting") is the apology and retraction of inaccurate remarks by Mitch Parker. Yet instead of acknowledging this and giving Genesi some credit, you take the opportunity to bring up something else to criticize them about again.

When even an exoneration brings only more criticism, I imagine Genesi will be keeping their statements focused on those who can hear them without launching yet another attack.

It wasnt exactly a private thing, it was a business thing that has been very visible to all of us. "Maybe they have made an apology in private" doesnt count.

If you would equally jump to the defence of Amig Inc / KMOS when they were wrongly accused then I would say that you definately are a unbiased yet opiniated vocal onlooker. Its obvious though, for whatever reason, you have a healthy interest in all things Genesi.

Until you can pull yourself out of this 'camp' thing stop preaching to others.

I never claimed to be "unbiased." There's nothing wrong with having opinions or a preference. It doesn't bother me at all that some people have decided they want an AmigaOne, or whatever. The problem is when people just make assumptions based on a simplistic view of everything being "our side" and "their side."

Until you can pull yourself out of this 'camp' thing stop preaching to others.

My "preaching" is just that it's not right to interpret some anonymous individual's opinion to be something bigger than what it is, as if it was the viewpoint of a "side" or "camp". Why reward lame insulters that way, no matter what they say? See what I'm getting at? It has nothing to do with whose fan you are.

I think certain people had too severe criticism with regard to Amiga Inc's financial problems and relating issues. This while the same group of people seemed to try to talk right similar problems which happened to Genesi! I don't think the mass attacks were fair, especially after Amiga Inc acknowledged it screwed up on various fronts, but would do its best to set things right and now with KMOS this may finally happen, given a chance! :-)

A strong Genesi and Amiga Inc would be good for the Amiga community. I only hope to see real competition though instead of just FUD spreading and the resulting alienatement of loads of bystanders.

'Feeling regret' and actually making a public apology are two different things. Besides, it is Bill McEwen's responsibility, not Fleecy.

A personal apology to developers who lost thousands of $$$ due to AmigaInc lie-ing would have been appreciated.

<>i Hopefully with KMOS this is all behind us and things will improve.

KMOS sole focus is handheld/phone *services* which AmigaDE was supposed to be designed for. OS4 was designed for A1/teron platform.

(It would be interesting to see one of the frieden bros blast me here on ann.lu and say that they are porting OS4 to cellphones! Wouldn't that be fun? hehe ;)

Actually, i would be the first to applaud Genesi's candor if they were to do it, and i feel they should apologise publicly, not only for that, but also for the behaviour of one of their employee's, the one who goes by the nick polyhead.

I wouldn't call being fair manipulating, but twisting & squirming about like they did in the past does fit that name quite well.

Genesi's problems are partly caused by bad luck, partly by their smug attidude & partly by their supporters/employees.

The bad luck is something out of their control, but the other 2 aren't.
And no, Genesi isn't the only company who has those problems, infact, it seems quite afew have them.

In reply to Comment 23 (Darth_X):
> A personal apology to developers who lost thousands of $$$

Name one. I mean, name a developer who invested "thousands of $$$" and got no
return. If "losing" to you means not getting money for software you have
developed because no one buys it because the platform is just launched and not
(yet) as visible as others are, that is not what I call lost. Well could one
as a developer really expect to sell thousands of copies of AmigaDE software
yet?

And then there's ZeoNeo would seem to do quite well with DE soft. There is more
often only 1 out of 10 who is successful than it is the other way around. And
that's not for AmigaDE only.

> KMOS sole focus is handheld/phone *services*

This is wrong. That is if handheld's and (mobile) phones are the only network
devices you know, you're right. KMOS is into network solutions, solutions, not
services. A service is when they'd be a carrier, phone corp or such.

"Network solutions" can be as diverse as a media center computer, a kiosk
system, a DVD player with ethernet, a device like Apples AirPort Express, an mp3
player with WLAN, video streaming clients, for companies it could be software
for VPN over WLAN, tablet pc's, a handheld communication platform like the
BlackBerry is, a device like the Philips iPronto (which is powered by intent
btw; and Garry Hare has worked for Philips) as a remote administration client
for the network (instead of the TV set). etc. This list is all but complete.

For some of those with a small displays AmigaDE seems sufficient, for those
that feature a larger display and allow input through touchscreen or keyboards
AmigaOS could be more suited (this would also mean that AmigaOS would get WLAN,
VPN, touchscreen recognition, ...!), when you need Java the choice is clear
for now and so on.

So AmigaDE would be the choice for a mobile where you only have a rather fixed
environment (which the DePlayer technology would enable). When the user should
be able to install additional programs, needs to run several in parallel
(multitask) and needs more desktop like features or a more versatile device
which can be used for different tasks AmigaOS would be favorable.

Of course I don't know what exactly KMOS has planned, but surely it's not just
selling "P & P" (PDA 'n' Phone) like devices. We'll have to see what emerges
off them.

What this all (and Garry Hare) have to do with Genesis OpenBSD troubles is
beyond me. Oh well, you're president of the US is responsible for the poor
weather on this side of the pond (Europe that is) until recently, isn't he? ;-)
