They (a group of users) decided that Ron's effort was not good enough, so they went to the police instead. I think Ron dropped the whole thing then. Before that he was obviously able to help some users to get their boards back and AFAIR he even worked out a plan to repair/build new cards for the remaining few. Ron's detective work showed that the whole thing was a mess as far as I remember, which was not only limited to DCE but also involved some resellers that had not been too honest about things. I don't know how it solved in the end, when the police was put on the case. I doubt that they could do much to improve the situation though.

Heh, a good one! But the Pegasos is "A LITTLE" too modern to be made from old Phase5 boards don't you think? ;-)

And what about this BBRV guy? Wasn't he supposed to clear things with Dellart?
How trustworthy, this whole DCE and blue side....

I doubt the police can do much now.

The persons that couldnt get in contact with DCE should have gone to the police _much_ earlier to stop the lies from DCE and get their cards back.

I think it was on BBRV's initiative that Ron got involved in the first place, since he was at DCE facilities from time to time anyway for the production of the Pegasos. I think that was a mistake. I think that Genesi should have kept themselves away from all that, it was never their problem anyway. But they wanted to assist for the good sake of it ...

"I doubt the police can do much now."

Exactly. I am not even sure if a crime has even been committed (if not, what could they do?), and if it has, it would probably have to involve a certain amount of money for them to put down any effort. There is probably too much mess, involving many parties, for too little return (very few cards, not a lot of money) for them to even bother.

"The persons that couldnt get in contact with DCE should have gone to the police _much_ earlier to stop the lies from DCE and get their cards back."

I believe that Some of Ron's findings was that not the entire mess was due to DCE alone. I even think there were cases where DCE actually HAD repaired boards and sent them back to resellers (records of that), who in turn seems to have NOT sent them back to the user (they sold them as new to other users? Or perhaps some end users DID get their card, and still claiming they didn't?). What could DCE do about that? There also seems to be cases of missing records of who is owning which board. Resellers were the ones who kept records of their customers (DCE kept records about THEIR customers, the resellers) and many resellers (who knew the end-users name) is gone. There are also components were needed to do repairs which were no longer available. In short: it's a mess. One should also remember that many people through the years has had NO problems with DCE repairs at all. One should also remember that a few very vocal people, of whom some probably even has never owned a PPC board from DCE, believes that there is some "political points" to capture for the red side by bashing DCE, since Genesi and the Pegasos could be connected to them in a remote way (the Pegasos is manufactured at DCE facilities) and like to join in and add to the choir. Like it matters in the dead Amiga market anyway, hehe. Anyway, Ron did a great job. Not because he had to, but because he is a nice guy!

Sure why not.. why not blame MorphOS users for DCE's lack of ability to do what they promised.

Sorry about offtopic...

How did the CSPPC/BPPC repair program that Hyperion initiated (or advertised) work out?

Since it's got such a long time it would be cool if these people could get pegasosboards instead (DCE manufactures those aswell, don't they? But maybe they aren't allowed to use the design like that, but anyway). Since even if some people actually got their cards fixed they aren't what they would have been back in the days. All this stuff sucks major ass.

Wouldn't it be possible for a huge group of people, and then i mean real huge, like 1000 or so, to design some open hardware themself and then release it under something like the BSD license but for hardware, let whatever company was interested manufacture the boards and atleast then people would have a little more secure platform of their own which wont die just because some company fucks up?

Been done before, and gone down the pan anyway.

IBM's POP reference platform is a good example - dead. Nobody uses it. It was
free and IBM certainly aren't bankrupt, but it's still dead :D

The problem with 1000 people desiging a card is very simple; too many cooks
spoil the broth. All the best Amiga hardware was designed by 1 or 2 people,
not 10 or 20 or 30.
