Before reaching comment #150 in an earlier debate, I suggested a "wild idea": Who on each side is prepared to bury the past, treat the other side(s) with respect and DEBATE instead of ARGUE? One golden rule... whoever signs up should try and remeber the names of the others doing the same and treat them with the respect which they would like to be shown to themselves. Anyone against it should then be ignored by the group in order to avoid flamefests. Here is the reasoning behind the idea: Let's forget about everything Amiga Inc, Gensei, Hyperion, McEwan, Buck, Fleecy, Hermans, Schmidt, KennyR, Eva, myself, Sammy... EVERYONE has said in the past. Yes, that's right - let's FORGET IT ALL. It's group hug time!!! Let's accept that OS4, MOS, AROS, AmigaDE and Amithlon are all great pieces of software. Let's accept that the latest Pegasos and Amiga boards are worth buying if you want to. Let's also remind ourselves that several years of blasting each other with wild accusations and insults have got all sides NOWHERE. I'll start. I apologise to everyone I've insulted on ANN. I'd like to thank everyone I've debated with. I want an AmigaOne for myself. I'd like to pay the same price as the Pegasos for it, but I accept the fact that I want OS4 so I have to buy an AmigaOne and I'd appreciate it if everyone would recognise that it's my choice. I wish the Pegasos and MOS good luck in this small market. I hope OS4+ manages the suceess of the classic OS. I like Amigaworld.net and I'm sure that MorphZone is a wonderful place full of satisfied customers. Let's cut out the crap. Let's talk to each other as if we were face to face and not hide behind keyboards. I'd much rather spend my time commenting on what software is being developed for the platforms than talking about what where my T-shirt is or whether a business card was genuine or not. Can we stick to what's important? Can we agree to disagree? I don't recall the Amiga v ST war being anything like this, but then we usually had to meet each other face to face. Damn, this reads like a bloody John Lenon song ;-) This is a chance to start a multi-platform news-site that we can ALL enjoy? I'd like to give it a try. This may be pointless, it probably won't work, but who is willing to try? Comment below and let's bury the past and respect those who respect us. Thanks for reading.

Oh, and one more thing. Let's remember that AmigaOne sites are for people interested in the AmigaOne/OS4 and that Pegasos sites are for people interested in the Pegasos/MOS. Let's not go there looking for "converts" ;-)

Also, to those people that use these sites, if someone from another side should wander in looking for answers to meaningful questions then please treat them as "guests" and not lepers. You never know, if you're nice to them then you may make a "convert". :-)

McEwan is a writer.
McEwen is a member of Amiga Inc.

On the subject : There were distinct attempts at developing an /entente cordiale/ between amigaworld.net and morphzone.org a few months ago; anybody care to share what they know of that?

I don't post much on Amiga sites - I'm more of a reader, but I'd like to add my support to this idea.

It seems as if quite a few people are starting to realise - in their own ways - that we cannot continue going in the direction we've been going.

To those who are reading but don't want to sign up, just consider how much of a difference it would make if YOU were to stop posting negative comments. Do such comments really help to move arguments forward or convince anyone of anything or do they just send things back round in another circle of everything that's gone before?

Please think before you post and think positive!

Chris

Hmm.. how about making it a bit shorter:

" Let's forget about everything"

Let's forget these companies, and concentrate on our real lives. Instead of talking about glorious history (and fightting about not so clorious parts), let's move on to real life and enjoy the in this century with todays computers and technology.

And.. yeah.. Let's all get brand new I-Mac G5 :-) :-)

While I think it is a good initiative I don't think it will stop the usual agitators to start big flamewars.
My advise is that if someone is annoying you with his comments the best way to shut him up is to ignore his comment. Comment on the subject, not on other people comments when you are pretty sure it is leading to flames.

I'm still dreaming about a quota of comments per user per thread.

However much we squabble and fight amongst ourselves, it still does not alter the fact that whether red or blue gets the majority of sales, it will still be microscopic compared to the rest of the computing world. So pulling together is a good idea, better to have something than 100% of nothing!

As someone who spends a lot of time reading, but not often posting, at ANN, I would like to observe that anything which can reduce the flamefests is probably a good idea. Good luck to it... why can't we all just get along?

The real issue is to consider whether a post one is about to make is interesting, relevant, witty, something people will want to read.

Almost all the person to person post-post-back squabbling is just plain boring.

A lot of the "dirt" is interesting.

We need to show these people how justice is served, good and proper.

the reason they teach history in school.....

Oh hell lets forget history and...... oh hell lets forget history..... oh hell lets forget histroy...

its time not to forget and instead make it where it cannot repeat and in a situation that says either its going to be better or its not going to be.

Why? Because damn't, no matter how much I try to forget how old I am, have become, I'm stil that damn old and I'm not getting any younger.

Who's really got time to do all the crap again? Who really woul want to cept that those who somehow managed to gain something out of the misery.

Oh hell forget all that... whats really gotta happen is more fundamental than that.

Or in other words, where do you have to go without worth while products and support?

You want things to change? that change has to start at the heart of the cause, products and service/support.

By now many have PTSD or too much in the way of personal bad experience/expense to be expected to be able to just ...... forget it...
