An internal AmigaOS4 native release has been made of AWeb3.5 APL Beta. It doesn't work too well yet, but good speed has been reported.

Sorry, I changed the wording a bit in the news item on our site: It seems to perform with good speed on those with OS4 newer than prerelease. Prerelease owners may not notice much difference.

This seems to be because of clib2 optimizations contained in the OS4 updates.

Henrik Mikael Kristensen

The newer clib2 is available on sf.net

AWeb Team, please, write a usable makfile/build system :-))

You current source tarball even requiere some funky make version...
The one from bigfoot is a lot of better.

Anyway, good luck :-)

So, let's see, what do you propose, and what are the flaws you find in the current system? I'm open to suggestions.

Too "Unix-like", doesn't pass the 5th line here...

What about make a proper make file for each OS: AmigaOS 3, Aros,
MorphOS...

Well, in my opinion, OS4 should never have been:

But, in the end, some people are using it, even if they are mistaken, they probably deserve a decent browser...

So good luck to the AWeb team, maybe they could produce one for all Amiga-like systems.

Bye

Older version of make reports infinity looping some where in the make script,
and new make program found on some where behind closed door is so hard to come by that it can even be found on freshmeat.net the Linux site for i686 computers, I propose rewriting the makefile so it don't use that fancy stuff,

It works fine under AmigaOS with ixemul installed. In any case, it's meant to be "portable" across environments and even compilers. If you look at the various Makefule.tubs, you'll see that they simply declare what needs to be huilt, how the things are built is specified in the "engine". Currently the engine is unix-centric in that it requires a sh-like shell and a couple of typical unix tools, but that can be changed and will change.

They would be a mess to mantain. This way you only have to differentiate the engine, not write all makefiles for all modules and all architectures. Moreover, the current system offers some nice features which wouldn't be available if you were using recursively called makefiles.

In reply to Comment 12 (AmigaOS40):
> Older version of make reports infinity looping some where in the make script,

It requires make 3.80, theoretically, which is the latest make release, however due to some bugs in that release, you need at least make 3.81, which is found in Make's CVS.

For your convenience, the binaries are put on AWeb's web page as well, and Andy compiled a version for AOS4 without too many problems.

The fancy stuff is what makes this system unique and useful at all. I don't think it's a wise idea to make it worse just because someone is too lazy to use the right tool for it :-) As said, download the binary from the AWeb page, or the sources from the Make CVS.
