Not at all I just hope the platform is success full and I hope it can be compared on the on it own right, look I don't have nothing against any one using MorphOS, you know what think about MorphOS as product, so I'm not going to say it, all this tolling kind of annoys me so removed all my links to ann.lu from my web page, ;-)

any way your called a MorphOS fanatic on www.amigaworld.net ;-)

I don't know where all this is coming from as far as this thread is concerned. Both MOS and OS4 were given equal opportunity to be displayed (in fact, OS4 ran on two machines and MOS on one) and presented. The event and its aftermath was, to put it simply, quite balanced in my opinion. And IMHO both systems worked great and were displayed to their benefit. It gave us a good idea of "what is done" at the moment for each of the operating systems.

It seems to me that perhaps you are reading this thread through unnecessarily cynical eyes.

"I don't get the version number on MorphOS, 1.0 did not contain the full feature list"

I don't remember Workbench 1.0 being feature-packed and bug-free either, or Windows 1.0, for that matter.

Well you can tell Paul that of course I would have taken more pictures if there was something to take photos of. The fact that there are only three pictures has got nothing to do with me being unfair towards OS4, if I wanted to be unfair I would have not put any pics of OS4 online.

In fact the whole comment is very amusing as the pictures Densho took (can be found in the very same thread) are just as informative as mine.

It was much fun to be @ the show.

I was surpriced by the stability of AOS4. For MOS I was already sure it has improved since y2002. Speed of AOS4 is good already and it seems the DMA is already stable. (I could buy the machine now, and I would dare to recommend it to some people.)

MOS has been around longer and it shows. MOS had more modern looking icons and the machine had a lot of more stuff to play with. (and I had more time to play with it than with the AOS4 boxes) (time will tell if also Pegasos gets a place @ my new home)

Both seem usable. Difference between AOS4prebeta and AOS4prebetaupdate is far bigger than the difference between MOS1.4.x and 1.5.

Amiga(like) computers are BAAAACK!

I'm looking forward to the time I have time to play with Amigas again and I'm looking forward to the y2005 Saku event, it will ROCK!

Honestly, while I agree with rest of what you say 100 %, that seems a bit stretched. Hyped up, if I may say so. MOS had a lot of new stuff and even though OS4 had greatly advanced too, saying that a "far bigger" difference exists doesn't really ring true to me.

My opinion is about the same what i had last week at fYanica Party in Hungary. OS4 showed everything what it could, and they wanted to show even more if they could (eg. JIT, more 3D), while MOS still has a _LOT_ of hidden potential, since developers still did not show us most of the developments since 1.4 (eg. new Ambient, TCP/IP, Radeon 3D in real action), which are known to exist and working. So you compare last night stuff to something that wasn't touched for more than a year.

So while i'm agree that the changes in OS4 are much more visible to the average user, i'd not say MOS development is slowed down, or changes are less significant. This is IMO though, feel free to disagree. :)

Well, I'm sure OS4 people also have some things in the labs that they could've shown, but chose not to. Otherwise I do agree with you, though.

What we saw is where the systems pretty much stand right now: what is done. MorphOS had TCP/IP but it wasn't demonstrated because there wasn't a working / enough network availability at the event location.

Perhaps I was not too clear. The "visible to user" changes are very small on MOS1.5 when compared to MOS1.4. I played with 1.4 and watched the people playing with 1.5. Already 1.4 was very usable, fast, stable, PPC native, used DMA etc. and looked already modern (Jupp3 had better looking Ambient than what Piru had, by the way, and it booted faster).
On AOS4 a lot of stuff seems to be gone PPC native in between pb and pbu and IDE DMA has been taken in use, etc.

So, IMO, the total number of changes migh be equall, but not that visible on MOS1.5. I think that when products get's more mature, that's normal development and tells about the advantage that MOS has because it has been longer in active development. I think also Piru said that most of the changes are "under the hood".

(I'm no way hinting that AOS4 is catching up.)

"Well, I'm sure OS4 people also have some things in the labs that they could've shown, but chose not to."

Well, according to Almos Rajnai, author of Petunia, who was present at fYanica, they wanted to show JIT, but it's not yet integrated with the static emulation. And this was not the only thing he said, so believe me, i'm not sucking from the thumb what i'm saying. :) As a contrast we were able to see a very early but working port of Freespace, and also a very early but somewhat working 3D(!!!) driver for Radeon. These were versions done on the day before the party. They showed what they have, believe me. :)

You tell me, miksuh. What on Earth is Kjetil on about? I see no reason for his comments. It was a good and fair presentation of both systems with great atmosphere (psycologically, not air conditioning wise :). Why the cynicism?

@Janne

There might be several reasons.

But IMO: Both OSs were better than I expected. I would have extreme fun with either one of those OSs. Neither one is perfect, still they both look&feel better than anything I have tried outside Amiga arena. Windows will never catch us now. :)

Well, while that's a welcome break from the cynicism, I wouldn't personally take my optimism as far as that... :) But hey, better be positive than negative!

It was a good meeting. Thanks for all who made it so!

Maybe because they don't decide in which hardware OS4 runs? They have a contract to develope OS4 for the hardware Amiga Inc/KMOS decides and that's all.

I simply can't believe after all these years you have written so much but have read so little what other people write.

I thought they were to develop a PPC AmigaOS4 and not "for the Hardware Amiga Inc/KMOS decides".
