My x86 mobo and "professor" ALONE cost me about this much when I bought them 1.5 years ago.
I know that lots of x86 hardware are a lot cheaper than PPC hardware, but this is actually a bargain for a PPC system! |

Posted by Anonymous on 29-Sep-2004 05:17 GMT | but the big question remains: Does it run AmigaOS4??
If not, then it's not interesting.....move on, there's nothing to see here. |

What a trollish comment!
The Pegasos runs a great deal of Linux distributions (the A1 really sucks when it comes to Linux), I have heard it runs QNX (although that one is only available through requests/negotiations with QNX and not free for download I am told), it runs OpenBSD (although that is no longer (at least not officially, but it is open source) updated along with other HW platforms), and most important to us Amigans - it runs MorphOS!
The Pegasos II is a very competent, well supported, high quality piece of hardware, that unlike the A1 is usable on a professional level (thanks to its great Linux support), and for beeing PPC hardware it's very reasonably priced, as seen above.
Frankly, I simply can't understand the obsession for *os4* that some people shows. I have an A1 with OS4 myself, and there is absolutely nothing special about it when I compare it to MorphOS. Rather the opposite, it won't even run the most common Amiga programs I want to run on it, programs that works *just fine* with MorphOS, and everything feels slower, more "bulky", and not at all as elegant as the "MorphOS Experience". To make a similar trollish comment as you did above, one only needs to turn the situation around:
"The AmigaOne - the big question remains: Does it *only* run AmigaOS4??
If so, then it's not interesting.....move on, there's nothing to see there." |

Posted by Johan "Hagge" Krüger-Haglert on 29-Sep-2004 08:16 GMT | I know, I know, I wouldn't get the dell either, but it's not a "bargain" price which the news item made it look like, allthought it is reasonable for a modern "amiga". I just wish morphos could do everything i wanted to do and i would make the switch. Would have been easier if it ran on x86. |

Posted by Dan on 29-Sep-2004 10:27 GMT | In reply to Comment 9 (takemehomegrandma): running morphos on pegasos2 G3 system at the moment, and it is the best investment I have made, runs all the amiga programs I need it to, using UAE to run all my old games with my old Amiga hard drive. Best investment I have made so far... also running all my mame roms on it too, now going to check if the x-arcade works with it too... Can't wait for MorphOS v1.5, Amiga OS4 needs a lot of ground to make up... Also, I am looking to use either PC or Old amiga joystick on MorphOS to play my old amiga games under UAE, anyone currently doing this?? |
