Posted by Anonymous on 13-Oct-2004 21:58 GMT | In reply to Comment 4 (minator): I guess you should read it as a soft version of Ramstein then! Of course, Ramstein is the hardest thing ever walked this earth, that is very true and totally undisputable! :-) |

Posted by Christophe Decanini on 13-Oct-2004 22:56 GMT | In reply to Comment 5 (Anonymous): Rammstein is not that hard. You can clearly recognize the instruments and understand the singer words. There are a lot of bands making much much heavier stuff. |

Posted by Monoxyde on 14-Oct-2004 06:08 GMT | Hmm, not too different from Nightwish i.e. not bad but, yes, it's on the soft side of "metal".
BTW Rammstein (two "M"s) are coming to Oslo in about a month. Guess who'll be there! |

Posted by Oppressor on 19-Oct-2004 10:48 GMT | Some of you got it entirely wrong regarding Heavy Metal. Both Rammstein and Cannibal Corpse are conceptually pop music - an artform that attempts to please by adapting to a popular formula. Heavyness isn't about sound and hard-rocking grooviness, but abstraction, severity and profoundness. Much of it can be found when listening to a CD while deciphering its lyrics from the booklet, as good Heavy Metal likes to encrypt its message and alienate the bystander in order to select its listeners, unlike pop which prostitutes for getting selected. While Cannibal Corpse are technically solid, you will find them hollow and dumb in comparison with bands like Immolation, Vader, Gorguts, Pestilence, Suffocation, Pessimist or Oppressor. Ok, that was my take on Death Metal, Black Metal is somewhat harder to explain... it builds another conceptional level on the grounds that were paved with the deconstructionism of Death Metal. I think a good album to start with would be Pestilence - Consuming Impulse (NL, 1989). It even rocks awfully hard for its time. :-) |
