How many "MorphOS"-words you can find in Guru Meditation's announcement? My browser sadly returned zero results. Let's draw some conclusions, shall we? :)

gurumeditation must be reading this thread, I'd prefer reply over conclusions (the Questions and Inquiries link in the press statement does not work, btw). I'd like to extend the question, in case they drop by: if MorphOS platform rights were not aquired, do they happen to know if they are available? Or do all rights now rest with gurmeditation? Was it difficult to negotiate with GPSoftware?

Actually that's just what I heard; maybe not all in 1.5, but Ambient is supposed to "make DOpus redundant."

If you're right then it's good news for MOS users and we can expect some screens shots soon, yes? If you're wrong then I don't think it's a good idea to stick your neck out and make a statement like that or some people will be quoting it and using it against you for the next 10 years ;-)

No.

But that could be the reason why new Ambient is not shown (not used) when MOS1.5 is (was) demoed publicly.

Really? I heard it was pretty much debunked already. ;-)

Screen shots soon? No, I doubt that very much. Nobody said anything about when Ambient might get that far. The talk was about DOpus compatibility with MOS and somebody said it isn't important because they want to cover the same tasks with Ambient. (I don't even remember exactly who said what, so categorize this as total rumor or something.) I could really care less if anybody wants to "use against me" some second-hand statement I heard and repeated. It's sad that they would be so desperate for entertainment or amunition or whatever. :-)

Yet another chance for the blue and red fleas to cease their
mortal combat, and bite the fat wintel hound on which they ride,
infecting it with rumours of two more fast and efficient PPC
operating systems/platforms, whose loyal followers promote the
good things they hold in common in public, while saving the debates
for the pub sessions, irc marathons, and trade shows. If
Formula One racing teams can manage multiple cars and drivers, the
PPC advocateS (plural) should energize with critical mass as the goal.
That windows exploder should be handily bested by both Magellan/OS4
and Ambient/Morph-1.5 should be a given, and cause for cheers in
both camps.

I don't the impression that Greg Perry would be overly concerned about it (beeing as angry with Hyperion as he sounds). But must admit that I don't get the reasoning behing such a request. Maybe it's a psychologial trick: what people like to do most is what is forbidden. Disallow a re-post and it will be posted on ann quicker than you can say Indiana Jones. Drifting off: Maybe this principle works for freeware authors, too. Make a free program, insert a copyright notice, upload to kaazaa. If my theory works, that will double the number of users.

It always seemed strange to me that people write "no cross posting," etc. in messages that are archived on public web sites.

Btw, here's a follow-up, posted a year and a half later.

I believe all this has been already covered on ANN and other proper news sites (news sites that don't exist only to propagate one company's lies).

After Hyperion proved to be untrustworthy again, someone luckily seems to have read this message. Thanks go to Mr Loong.

Jeepers! Looking at this suggestion from Dr. Perry, I hope Mr. Loong has a little more sense (or perhaps an equally warped sense of humour) :

"You could probably also take advanced orders and deposits from end users to help you pay the licence fees"
