My computer is in semi-working state again - the retailer I bought it from changed the mainboard, the processor and the RAM. The only problem that seems to remain right now is that my "Network and Dial-up Connections" are empty when they shouldn't, but that's just a minor issue. After seven hours of school, plus four hours of work today, all I'm planning to do is sleep, before hopefully getting back to regular updates tomorrow. What looks like a spider from a dialup in France sent over nine-thousand requests to ann.lu yesterday and today, inflating my bandwith to some extent, but not affecting the service, as far as I could tell.

In the beginning of January, Allan Odgaard managed to short circuit his harddisk. His hope is that someone has an identical harddisk, from which he can borrow the control print to restore his data. "The model is a Seagate ST3660A and the drive parameters are 1057CYL-16HEADS-63SECT-545.5MB." Also see his original message.

Ulf Bertilsson writes:
There is now an installer script in development. Head over to www.amigasamba.org for a download. It will enable you to install Samba in a second, without any techical experience. This version will install properties for Miami Classic and DLX. Genesis/Amitcp support is in development. Samba is orginaly unix software to enable file/printer sharing with lan manager clients. In Wintel world, this means your Amiga will show up in "Network Neibourhood" and you can mount PC shares as your local disks. The Amiga Samba team is looking for motivated individuals to help out with futher development of the samba main archive and the installer.

The Official CyberGraphX Homepage currently features several articles on disagreements between Tobias Abt and Elbox. To sum it up, there will be official Voodoo3 drivers from the Picasso96 team, who are expressing doubts in the TV/Overlay stuff presented by Elbox at WOA. There are also several responses from Elbox, including statements on the TV tuner and 100MBit ethernet cards.

Matt Sealey cites from the page: This is a petition to gauge support for a move to get Haage & Partner, or Amiga for that matter, to release the changelogs for and from versions of the Operating System and included tools greater than Release 3.1. [..] If you support the open release of these logs, then please sign the petition!

[Motd] Advertisers needed | ANN.lu |
Posted on 14-Jan-2001 13:22 GMT by Christian Kemp | 43 comments View flat View list |
In a recent MOTD, I stated that the advertiser situation was bad, but I didn't expect to make less than 5$ in 13 days. So I decided to pull the only remaining advertisement banner, but I am hoping to find an alternative means of at least covering my online cost (various virtual servers, phone bill, etc.). I haven't given up the hope that Amiga companies (Amiga, Haage&Partner, and many others) will finally understand that the market would be even less alive without Amiga news sites, and finally decide to make suitable contributions to the news sites they've been using for years to post their press releases and announce their products on.
Do I sound slightly bitter? Perhaps. But with a phone bill of 100$ every month, an upcoming domain renewal for 90€, a website generating 5$ out of over 50,000 pageviews is just ridiculous...
