I spent most of this Saturday adding older news articles (from March 1999 to January 2000) to the article database and hacking the code so that it supports the old formats again. Unfortunately, it's been a long time since I last wrote any Perl and I never really grasped its regular expressions, so that author information for March 99 to August 99 doesn't work right, yet. It's also obvious that the next step must be to add a search functionality. Meanwhile, ANN now features easy access to over 1200 news items, not counting unmoderated postings, from the last year and a half.

Amiga have just released this press release about the AmigaOne hardware spec. Eyetech will build the first actual boxes, which are Classic Amiga/AmigaOne hybrids (both A1200 and A4000-based models will be available) and will be based on PPC. They are scheduled for a Q1 2001 release. First stand-alone AmigaOnes should ship in Q3 2001. Also, the development of the Classic AmigaOS will continue with v3.9 coming out before Christmas.

On this page, Merlancia Systems Engineering Labs (who seem to be affiliated with the Amiga dealer of the same name) announce the Torro series of multimedia computers, all running the new Amiga DE. They include desktops, handhelds, set-top-boxes and whatnot and run on Motorola processors (PPC and Coldfire) and Merlancia's own CPU (?). Make of it what you wish...
