Even though I ought to have updated my resume/CV and applied for a new job, this evening I quickly hacked together a ratings system for any news article posted on ANN. You can vote, and therefore voice your opinion, on every article; the possible votes being the numbers 1 to 5, 1 being the worst and 5 the best. In the future, this system might be expanded to reduce the size of unimportant and off-topic postings, or perhaps even to hide them altogether, and to emphasize on the more important and relevants news items.

Any comments, ideas or suggestions?

Jason Compton writes in comp.sys.amiga.misc: I haven't seen anybody mention this yet, which sort of surprises me. Amiga history completists may find it interesting. US Digital Communications, the company Viscorp became after giving up on interactive TV and trying to get into satellite telephony, has at long last gone out of business. The post-mortem is at http://finance.yahoo.com/quotes?s=usdi.ob&d=t or you can check your favorite stock info site by looking up the ticket USDI or USDI.OB.
[Motd] Update 2ANN.lu

OK, I still didn't get around to doing a regular update. What is worrying me right now is the disrespect of several rules by some people submitting news or adding comments. I do not like seeing people pretend to be somebody else, people insulting others, using vulgar language, or otherwise posting illegal or immoral statements. I think that before I implement anything else in ANN's scripts, that a rating system is needed. Until then, I am forced to remove any content that is in direct violation of applicable laws or good taste. Sadly some people don't seem to be able to moderate themselves, so I'll have to moderate them.

Hmmm... sorry for the inactivity. I know it's been three days since I last posted some news on the main page. There are a few nice articles in the unmoderated section, but I still can't access any FTP server from work, so I cannot easily transform an unmoderated article into a moderated one yet. To make things worse, I always seem to be tired or ill when I'm at home; which obviously doesn't help things much. On the subject of advertisers, I am happy to report that Eternity has paid me all money owed. I wish that I could say the same about my other former advertiser, despite having had a promising email exchange sometime last week. As for new advertisers, I am currently talking to a few people, but nothing too solid has developed yet. I'll keep you updated.
[News] Former Microsoft exec to join Amiga?ANN.lu

An anonymous poster left this link in a comment here on ANN. The article says, Tod Nielsen, vice president of developer marketing, becomes the latest in a string of high-profile departures from the software maker. Nielsen plans to join a startup in the greater Seattle area. Taking into account that Amiga Inc are located in the Seattle area (IIRC), and Bill McEwen made a very specific comment (read more, fourth paragraph) at the Neuss show, this might - but not necessarily has to be - an indication of things to come.

Amiga-news.de has posted Martin Baute's report from Bill McEwen's keynote speech at the World of Alternatives show in Neuss, Germany. Amongst other things, McEwen announces the development of the AmigaOne desktop computer, talks about a (apparently) working prototype of a Gameboy Color-style game machine developed in-house at Amiga and running Amie, and hints at a new recruit to their team who comes from a "large company in trouble".

Iomega have added the Amiga to their support options. Although we sometimes scorn Imomega for not having much (any?) Amiga support, if you go to http://www.iomega.com/support/nav_keyword.html you will see that the Amiga is now a supported OS.

The Hyperion Software page has the announcement that they will be porting Raven Software's mercenary first-person shooter to the Amiga and Mac platforms, both ports expected by the end of this year.

Not all PS2 mice work with the Mroocheck/Punchinello mk2 adapter, so I have setup a Mroocheck compatibility list/survey page. If you have this interface, please fill this survey. Of course, results are available there too, if you're looking for some information before buying an interface and/or a mouse.
