[Motd] 1,000,000 visitors | ANN.lu |
Posted on 04-Jun-2000 00:29 GMT by Christian Kemp | 6 comments View flat View list |
Sometime around 2am this morning, ANN's graphical counter recorded the 1,000,000st visitor. While this number may not be entirely accurate due to proxy caching, static an dynamic IP addresses, and people browsing with graphics turned off; it should nevertheless reflect the fact that ANN has come a long way since its early days in December 1996. I'd like to thank all my loyal visitors for visiting, spreading the word, and otherwise contributing to what ANN has become throughout the years.

[News] Amiga adds new content to website | ANN.lu |
Posted on 03-Jun-2000 16:28 GMT by Christian Kemp | 40 comments View flat View list |
Amiga's homepage now features an Executive Update dated 03-Jun-2000. amigatainment, as the name suggests, seems to be a new section oriented towards entertainment software. A press release on the Amiga Software Developers Kit (SDK) is now also available. Then, there's a (large, but badly formatted) list of companies selling the kit. On a related note, it seems like Ted Wallingford is once again responsible for the site maintenance.

I just received this from Gary Peake. Seeing how it's 2:31am here, I won't attempt to provide you with a summary, but rather just invite you to read more below. This has been quickly converted from RTF, so formatting may not be perfect.

After recent negative press reports on Alive Mediasoft, both
here
on the unmoderated
section of ANN, as well as on amiga-news.de and Czech Amiga News, I was surprised to receive
an email from Steven Flowers saying:
Let me give you somthing real to right about Alive will close very soon
Earlier on, he already sent an email, trying to explain the situation with Goal 2000,
that you can read below.
Now, what is your opinion? Is Alive good or bad? What are your experiences with
them? Remember, this isn't a witch hunt, so please don't flame, just state the facts.

[Web] Porting scene demos to Java... | ANN.lu |
Posted on 28-May-2000 20:48 GMT by Christian Kemp | 6 comments View flat View list |
Equinox submitted this site, which seems to have much closer ties to the Atari ST than any other platform, but the subject is quite interesting anyway. Basically, these guys took old scene demos from the eighties and converted them over to Java. I watched many Amiga demos in the old days, and it would be interesting to see some of the more interesting effects converted over to Java.

The Amiga-related bi-weekly editorial "Strandball"
has been updated. It's refreshing to see new websites appearing, but it's a pity that the page is only
available in German.
