Here's a copy&paste from Czech Amiga News.
Roger Wyatt is quoted as saying Bill McEwean's after dinner talk and demonstration was stunning in its sweep, complexity, and scope. Here are a few highlights:
- Newtek has placed its source code for the Toaster and Flyer into Open Source status. See www.toaster.amiga.org for details.
- Greenboy of the Phoenix Group joined Amiga's Gary Peake on stage to shake hands and announce that there was no split in
the Amiga community. Phoenix and Amiga are working together.
- Sun is a strategic partner of Amiga.
- Bill McEwen: "Our success will be the embrase of Java." Expect to see many Java apps for Amiga.
- Red Hat is another strategic partner. So is Corel.
Amiga will be the common consumer application layer for 26 different versions of Linux.
- The new Amiga developer environment will run on top of a Red Hat Linux base and foundation.
- Amiga will be the common consumer interface for Corel Linux apps.
- Thus Amiga will provide Java and Linux with a common interface. Amiga will be extensibile running on cell phones to servers.
- 117 current Amiga titles are being ported to the Tao based New Amiga OS.
- Espial is providing an 800k java web browser for New Amiga.
- There will be a new version of Scala for the new OS.
- Animators from Disney provided the conceptual designs for the look of the new hardware reference designs. They are beautiful.
They will be going up soon on the Amiga website. Disney used over 500 Amigas to produce computer animation for their films.
- Amiga is aligned with an array of consumer electronic firms including Sony, JVC, and others.
- There will be an upcoming announcement regarding Amiga participation in a global ISP alliance.
- In the weeks to come Tech Head Stories will provide both in-depth analysis of the Amiga
announcements in streaming video, text, and graphic formats. Stay tuned.
I didn't manage to get a confirmation for all this. Only Czech Amiga News has original coverage, amiga-news.de copied it from there. Moo Bunny seems to be down and amiga.org has nothing on this either. A quick search on comp.sys.amiga.misc also yielded no results.

I just read this on Dreamhost's admin pages: Jezebel will experience some downtime on Sunday evening so that we can fix its broken backup tape drive. Jezebel will then once again be triply protected from data loss! Expect a downtime of no more than 90 minutes (though 50 minutes would be a closer estimate). I guess that means ann.lu won't be accessible for an hour or so later today.

[News] Annex's Back For the Future MP3 | ANN.lu |
Posted on 01-Apr-2000 09:12 GMT by Christian Kemp | 13 comments View flat View list |
While browsing through several MP3 archives this morning, I stumbled across a link to Annex's "Back For The Future". Now even though I never even heard the song, I was surprised to see it included on a page that had absolutely nothing to do with the Amiga. Of course there's also the aspect of ilegal distribution, and as such I won't be mentioning the URL here. Any comments?

New MUI based FTP client! Compatible with some of the older servers which newer clients seem to have problems with.

I spent most of my evening working on this update to the scripts.
The most obvious change should be that the horitontal navigation
bar has turned into a gradient and lost its border. Some links
moved to a box on the right, the article range links should now
be clearer (real numbers instead of "show 10 previous/next"). I'm
not satisfied with the navigation box yet, so that one may still
change. At the bottom of the page, you will notice that the ten
older articles are now taking up less space. Comments are no
longer directly clickable, but still available after clicking on
the message link. A less obvious fix is that it will now be
possible to view previous news items of a specific category only.
This was broken ever since I implemented categories, but finally
turned useable now. I hope you like these recent changes. No
matter if you do or don't, please let me know of any ideas,
suggestions or criticisms you may have by adding a comment.

bh posted to comp.sys.amiga.misc how he noticed that AmigaZone's Fleecy IRC transcripts will no longer be open to the public. A note on Amigazone's homepage says: Note!: Due to an agreement with Amiga Inc., future transcripts of chats with Fleecy will be posted ONLY in AmigaZone's own file library, accessible by members only. If you wish to participate in the live chats with Fleecy or read the transcripts, join AmigaZone as a paying member.
