[News] BoXer at least 2-3 months away | ANN.lu |
Posted on 04-Feb-2000 09:05 GMT by Christian Kemp | 10 comments View flat View list |
Mick Tinker writes on his BoXer page: There is a new prototype currently in production, it will be back for development to continue in just over 2 weeks. There haven't been many major changes to the specification since it was last update. Even when the board is back there the laborious task of powering it up in stages, developing additional logic to support features and making sure everything works as intended. I am expecting 2-3 months of development time from when the board is back in my hands before it is at the stage where it can be release for production.

Mike Bouma informed me that there was a new Executive Update available on Amiga's website. Among other things, Bill McEwen says in the next two weeks [they] will make another strategic partnership announcement with regards to the new Amiga and the operating system. Apparently, they are also working on a new website.

Martin Bren created a preferences file for Visual Prefs 1.5+ to make your Workbench look a bit like the new MacOS X interface (Aqua). He says work isn't finished and he will still be updating it. A somewhat large screenshot can be seen here

[Files] DirOpus 4.12 sourcecode | ANN.lu |

This is the Directory Opus 4 source code.
Jonathan Potter writes: The release of Directory Opus 4 under the GPL in NO WAY affects the existing
commercial status of Directory Opus 5. [..] The source code is largely uncommented, messy, spaghettified, and generally in bad shape. I sincerely recommend you consider upgrading to Directory Opus 5, the source code of which is _much_ better :)

Version 3.2b of this Picasso96 bootpic viewer is now available on Aminet. Unlike the others, this viewer saves the pictures as raw-data and can load them directly into the Picasso-bitmap.
Another important feature is that the screen only exists in
gfx-board memory. So during boot no extra amiga memory is
used and fragmentation is minimized. If you think, bootpic viewers must offer many fade effects, a lot of screen action during startup and a handy user interface and have to cause memory fragmentation, you should give ShowAmiga96 a try ;-)

It looks like the current version of PC-Task will be the last one. On his Future Developments page, Chris Hames writes:
Sorry but I have lost interest, so I doubt there will be a future version.

James Sellman wrote in c.s.a.m.: My sources tell me that Tinker's FINALLY sent the design out for limited production. The problem is a matter of finding PCB manufacturers/assemblers that are willing to do small runs without charging an arm and a leg.
