[Rant] Analysis of user interfaces | ANN.lu |

An analysis of the Windows and Mac OS user interfaces can be found here along with a little interesting quiz. The interesting part is that many of the points complained about in the article with Windows/MacOS's GUIs were in fact addressed with the classic Amiga OS. Also an article of good basic user interface design can be found here. Why is this important? Because it can help fine tuning the GUI for AmigaDE, by following simple rules in user interface design, making the end-user experience much more pleasing.

Mike wrote: Do you think the current beta of iBrowse should be released now? IBrowse users please voice your opinion. At this time the votes are about +80% Yes, and -20% No. I think you need to be a member of Yahoo! in order to vote. I set up this vote because March 23/24 will mark 1 year of no updates for IB, which is still not finished (as per advertisement) nor bug free. The current beta is said to be much improved, and appears to be a few months old from posts of the beta tester.

[Rant] Companies are copying Amiga's and TAO Group's ideas | ANN.lu |

Henrik Mikael Kristensen writes: Well, this is actually both an opinion and a news item. Certain events taking place right now in certain companies could be important to the future of Amiga Inc. And it should show why charging 99$ for an SDK is very reasonable, IMHO.

Something occurred to me - while I fully support the route Amiga Inc have taken with using Tao as the core OS, I am not sure how it`s use will translate to the real world.

[Rant] What happened to Tornado3d? | ANN.lu |
Posted on 27-Jan-2001 16:08 GMT by Christian Kemp | 7 comments View flat View list |
Leon r. Tan writes: I bought Tornado3d V3.0 just before december 1999. On their website,
they advertised with 'buy before the end of 1999 and receive a free
update to V3.1, which has better Permedia2 support and almost native PPC support. So.... where is it? And where is their website?
Looks like they have cheated on us, because I posted an article
somewhere last year in ANN about this and they have never answered to us. I think that every Amigan surely reads the articles on ANN, so does this mean they don't even support Amiga anymore? Let's hear some other opinions, I am curious how many of you out there have similar problems. Thanks~!

[Rant] New Amiga websites | ANN.lu |
Posted on 29-Oct-2000 18:09 GMT by Christian Kemp | 3 comments View flat View list |
I think it's interesting to actually see a trend of new Amiga websites appearing again, after quite a few established ones closed their doors this year, or even before. AmigaSDK uses an unusual color scheme, but provides screenshots, links to reviews, software downloads, workshops... AmiOne.com is largely under construcion, but has a more refreshing layout. There's also a French support site under construction. As you can see, all of these pages seem to aim at the future, being AmigaOne- and/or AmigaSDK-only. What do you think? Is SDK/One the way to go for current and future websites?

a short essay on whether AmigaOS should be Open Source, and how to a
certain extent (for some people) it already is, or was.

See that picture of the OS3.9 packaging? Now look at the fly dirt under the amiga logo:
I make it out to say: "Scalable multiplatform Multimedia" If os3.9 were classic only,
would/could Amiga put that?

[Rant] Jason Compton on Amiga/Red Hat announcement | ANN.lu |

Jason Compton wrote in comp.sys.amiga.misc: All this is, is an announcement that says that Red Hat will sell Amiga's SDK through their web store. I confirmed with Red Hat's Melissa London (who confirmed it with execs within the company) that this is in no way an announcement of any agreement, alliance, partnership, or joint development agreement. This is, in effect, a press release that says "Our CD is on sale at RedHat.com." Don't let anyone tell you different.

[Rant] Philip Cosby speculates about Amiga / Infomedia announcement | ANN.lu |

Philip Cosby, Editor of Amiga Flame speculates about Amiga Inc's Relationship with Infomedia Network Inc. This is a particularly interesting development, which in fact has a Tao connection. [..] Conclusions are difficult to draw but it could be speculated that the Tao Group might have been at the heart of this plan bringing together two of its partners; Infomedia Network with its plans firmly focused upon advanced hardware and Amiga Inc's focus on revolutionary software, creating what they have described as a Operating Environment
