Sony wants to turn the Playstation2 into a hub connecting various digital household appliances. Interestingly, this CNet article speculates that "to do that, it may need to join with software makers or device manufacturers to develop the home network operating system and compatible hardware." A Sony representative also confirms that this may be the case.

Well I thought Amiga was already talking to them?
Also why couldn't we just do this with a Dreamcast, it is cheaper!!!

Well, it's funny that Sony doesn't include a modem or any other networking
device as standard. At least Dreamcast has a 56K modem built in and already
has internet access and online gaming as well as their own ISP started. The
Amiga Environment has already been ran on a Dreamcast too so it shouldn't be
too hard to make new Amiga software work on it.

If AMIGA had anything to do with this SONY would not be searching for
such a partner any longer. I could swear SONY and AMIGA (btw these
two names look really good side by side :) were in talks but as it
seems without any cool result...

Perhaps sony sees Amiga as a threat? Though I could see Sega recieiving Amiga as a boon, now those are two names I'd like to see side by side.
