In reply to Comment 19 (Chris Roccati):
: The problem is there won't be reasonable return: the game requires an
: hardware (PPC card) that is no longer manufactured, plus leverages on
: the availability of not one but TWO not-yet-ready products. At the end
: there will be the usual whine and moan about the fact that the amiga
: owners are not profitable enough to develop for.
Are you really an Amiga user? Did you ever pay attention to the reviews and updates given by Digital-Images about their game WipeOut? I remember one of the mags did a follow up just three months after the game had been released and the statement about the numbers sold was "overwhelmingly" more than they expected. Have you ever talked to Stuart, or emailed the DI-Club? Would you like the email address?
As for the second part about the ZIII interfacing PCI bus I'm going to reitterate something from my previous post. If you don't like what's been served to you, fix it yourself. Here's a free tip. When you post flamebait, it would be good if you knew what you were talking about and had hard evidence to back it up on your replies.

I'd love to see Half Life for the AMIGA. Quake is alright, & the others like it
but I'm more into good puzzles & such. I don't really like, "Kill everything you
see constantly! AaaaHAHAHHA!! Lets desensitize everyone!" ...Give me something
with CONTENT.
Hey... BattleZone 2 would be cool, too.

In reply to Comment 1 (Chris Roccati):
: I simply don't understand why these people keep following the stupid idea of
: porting such 3d intensive games: we already have quake running at 10 fps. We
: will have shogo (probably slower).
HAHAHAH 10FPS, where the hell have you been kid? I was playing QuakePPC on a ZIII PIV running at 49FPS with a screen resolution of 512x384, and I have many witnesses. Let me repeat part of that, the graphics card was on the ZIII bus, not some PCI board that has yet to be released (no offense Elbox, smooches to my Power-Tower). Pump it up to 800x600 and it was only about 32FPS but the point being is that I would love to know what screen mode and what your system is setup like get 10FPS...
Go get CSPPC, then get a CVPPC or PIV with a Voodoo (when it's released but voodoo preferred) and then purchase WipeOut 2097 from Digital-Images. At that point, you will learn to eat your meat before touching the pudding. If you don't want to do that, go buy yourself a dev box, program the schtuff yourself. That's the problem with some of the users these days, they don't know when to report a bug or yell out loud to the world until its fixed (you know, like Micro-Code does with H&P). If you have a problem with the speed, see if you can do any better. I was always told that if you don't like what's been served before you, fix it yourself.
: Do we actually NEED to see how pathetically slow will be soldier of fortune?
: Couldn't these people ask licenses for, say Starcraft or Diablo?
Wine, wine, wine... Your post was almost as funny as some of those done by the ill-famed "unleaded".
In any case, read some of the reports from Messe as well as some of the "Eye-popping" beta-reports done by Activision about HereticII or the reports of Psyognosis when they first saw WipeOut demo'd for them. If you don't have a PPC, don't complain about how slow the software is.
One last thing, Syke does an awesome job on AmigaExtreme.com... Same goes to Phillip to give you an accurate perspective of how well a game handles on different machines.

In case anyone doesn't know about SoF, let me talk about it very briefly.
It looks absolutely stunning, in both graphics and gameplay terms. When I saw it
on the PC, my thinking was "when will it be out for my Playstation?".
But I knew that the PS couldn't handle the graphics, and if a PS version was
made, the graphics would have to be cut-down. That's the kind of game which
forces people to leave the Amiga, and it shows just how green the grass is on
the other side.
I had written that off as the kind of game that Amiga-owners can only dream of,
and was resigned to waiting for the NG Amigas to arrive before we see games of
that quality.
This is absolutely stunning news, and I'd like to say well done to all
at Hyperion. I hope the Amiga port lives up to your other recent games.
To all the naysayers, why can't you be positive for once? Cutting-edge software
dried up on the Amiga many years ago. Now that it is making a comeback you still
complain? What exactly does this "community" want? Old 80s Atari arcade
conversions?
For some reason, we always find some negative angle to complain or argue about.
What will you say when people like Adobe start coming to the Amiga? "Oh no,
why have you released Photoshop? It will be too slow on my A1200..."?
Be happy and enjoy the resurrection.
Nabs.

You know... All these posts, and only Chris is the one bickering about how
slow his 040 4000 really is. Is it that Chris is the only user in this
comments section that doesn't have a PPC card? I know I have one. Everyone
else in here seems to be thanking Hyperion or backing up their reasons why it
isn't as bad as you (Chris) might think. Maybe it's time to rethink the
logic.
[sarcasm]Hey I know!! How about we all start complaining about the fact that
Hyperion isn't porting enough stuff over or they are porting too much over...
either way we'll be complaining about Hyperion nonetheless other companies out
there looking to port things over to the Amiga.[/sarcasm]
Greets to you guys at Hyperion! HereticII is well worth it. Also greets go
over to DI, WipeOut is still a rage to play, just wish I had a 3D card in my
own Amiga to use it. Had to change my name to phreakerish so that I could put
my greets in. ;-)

| How do you plug in the PCI slots in a A4000? Simple,
| you remove the Zorro 3 daughtherboard and replace it
| with a new daugtherboard that has Z3 and PCI slots.
Excuse me, AFAIR there is NO such thing as
"Z3 daughterboard" in an A4000, at least not in my A4kT.
Z3 slots reside on the *motherboard*, so do you mean
I will have to exchange the original A4kT mobo for this
new one from ELBOX, if I want to have PCI?!
Sounds pretty weird...
Regards,
Andrew

The A4000T is a different computer than the A4000 desktop. The A4000d has a small daughterboard with ZIII slots, whereas the A4000T hasmore slots, but they reside on the mobo... I don't think there will be a way to fit PCI slots (a pity, as the A4000T is easily the most powerful Amiga ever made)

Yes, I suspected that things could be that way. It`s a shame, since
the majority of recently bought A4k`s are certainly "T". I wonder
if it makes sense for ELBOX to produce an A4k expansion which will
only work on less than half of A4k models available.
Any comments from Ben, or maybe ELBOX themselves?

That`s exactly why I asked... Anyway, I was thinking about buying
an extra A1200, so there WILL be a way to have PCI. :)

Andrew

This is great news. I said several years ago that if a company were to produce a PCI daughterboard for the A3000 desktop, I would replace my ZIII slots and not look back. I would love to plug in my Diamond Monster Sound MX400 PCI Sound card into my A3k system, and throw a Voodoo 3 card in there to replace the CV64/3D. All this talk has got me excited that it may actually be possible soon.

There are far more 4000 desktops build then 4000 towers, look at the price of a tower :(
And as you need to buy a 1200 tower to fit the PCI board, this is not needed
for the 4000 desktop version. There where about 4 companies who build towers with
new designed zorro boards for the 4000 desktop, so 1 PCI-board builder is IMHO more than possible.

Berend.

In the midst of all this pointless bickering,I would like to say one thing.
It takes a lot of balls for a company in the Amiga market to obtain a license for a top selling PC game. And I commend them.Do you people honestly think that a software company that wanted to survive would release a crap port of a hot game? I'm sure Hyperion is going to do everything they can to make this game blaze on Amiga hardware. It wouldn't make financial sense if they didn't.Look at the licensing fees that they'er having to pay for these ports, and you'll realize that no self respecting Amiga software company would pay these fees without knowing that they could produce a quality port.Leave these guys alone! Half of you won't bitch and complain when you have a copy of SOF in your hands,so why do it now.Just follow the ill-fated advice that all Amiga Zealots(tm) are famous for---wait and see.End of pissy rant. :)

Hey boys at Hyperion,
Don't worry about all the pathetic complains people does... our game "Tales from Heaven" received sooo many, and still receives..
people is never happy about products, as if they should absolutely buy it.. I always bought what satisfaced me :)
You released a demo of Heretic2 before the release (as we did with Tales from Heaven), so people could try before buy..
In our case, people reported "hey, it doesn't support my BVision".. sure, but the game was targetted for 030 Amigas. In your case,
"hey, it needs too much powerful hardware to run"..
What can we do? Nothing.. we love too much this wonderful computer to stop, and every single email with compliments from Amiga users, makes us forgot the 10 received with complainings :)
Keep up the GREAT work, dudes!

think in that!!!!!
if escena can make an acccelerator (PPC) for zorro slot why not a ppc accelerator
on pci slot?.this accelerator will communicate with the 3d cards at full 132 mb/s!!!!!
i hope any company think in that (may be elbox itself).
and finally 22 mb/s is beter than nothing, isnĀ“t it?

In response to Chris saying that nobody pays for a PPC to play a game....
My Amiga kicks ass. I've used hundreds of other mixed systems, and besides the damn games they have, the ALL suck! I don't need a game in order to buy myself a PPC, I'd buy one just to decompress LZX packets faster, or to display JPEG images, OR to just play MPEG video and audio. It's just one way to make my kickass computer kick even more ass!!
