Henrik Mikael Kristensen writes: I can't confirm this rumour, but it was posted on the AmigaOne mailinglist that an AmigaOne prototype board will be shown at the Alternative World of Amiga show at the end of February. Whether the prototype is functional is unknown at this time. The board is to be demonstrated by Fleecy Moss and Alan Redhouse.

It's also on the alt-woa website. Hopefully this is true, would be another good interesting thing to see at the show.

It's quite possible I think since Eyetech are sponsering it and they are developing the AmigaOne1200/4000.

Sounds very realistic to me....Developer boards must be out in Februrary anyway I guess.
What's more interesting is if Amiga is able to show an alpha version of AmigaDE to run on it.
Btw:When should Eyetech's boards be ready for sale?

Can someone give the URL to the alternative WOA website?
Thanks...

I think Eyetech was supposed to have AmigaOne1200/4000 developer boards
ready for developers already in december. They seem to have at least one
month delay in their schedule.
(I do not want to think Escenas reputation on delivering the Z3 PPC accelerator...)
Knowing Elbox's reputation over the few past moths, I would not be utterly
surpriced if they manage to deliver AmigaDE compatibility via SharkPPC, before
AmigaOne1200/4000 is ready from Eyetech...
(I think also SharkPPC has at least one month delay compared to their original
schedule, because they've done re-designing on the SharkPPC.)
Competition has started, best company wins... ;-)

Hah, that`d be a first in the Amiga market. More like, if Amiga companies stay
true to form, the "winner" gets his product out first, the "looser" gets his
out second and they spend the next 2 years ensuring that they are as
incompatible as possible. They will only speak to certain developers, they
regularly engage in heated, childish public arguments while both complain about
how low their sales are (a situation brought about by the fact that no-one
can support either without being drawn into the slanging match) finally going
broke or leaving the market in such a fractured, unresolvable mess than
another batch of nails are hammered into the coffin lid of the Amiga, the
only coffin with more iron in its lid than the Giant Iron Coffin Of
Ferroblockus..

And what do you intend to do with an 1200+Tower+68k or PPC board+SIMM+Mediator+Voodoo3+ethernet+SharkPPC+SDRAM+AmigaDE ? Nothing.
With an AmigaOne1200 you're ready to go, because it's fully OS 3.x compatible, and thanks to the 68k emulation by H&P it's fast as hell.
And all-in-one-only board...

Hi
I hope AmigaOne1200 board works as a stand alone motherboard
in a standart PC ATX Tower case..
All the software I use daily supports RTG and AHI...I don't need
A1200 motherboard or AGA support...
I think Eyetech should also target users without A1200s (maybe
they can attract new users)

Competiton is great, it means continual R&D and cost cutting. But this isn't that large a market.
Maybe if they could agree on an - open standard - for classic Amiga... Seeing how Amiga I' no longer deal with classic hardware.
There's an open 'previously' royalty free standard for sdram.
Since the A500 was around, upgrade paths were very limited. You had to have a pretty good idea of what you wanted. And be stuck with you're selected manufacturer's upgrades.

And why can't you run OS3.x on the setup from your first paragraph? You'll still
have a A1200 in there somewhere. And you mention H&P's 68k emulation for the
AmigaOne...does that mean the AmigaOne will be able to run WOS until AmigaDE is
ready?
> And all-in-one-only board...
If you count plugging an A1200 m/b into the AmigaOne m/b an all-in-one board.
But yes, less boards than using a Mediator+Shark.

If you go on Amiga.com website you can see Eyetech as the Amiga partner for AmigaOne. Fleecy also spoke about bplan but never about Elbox.
Did I miss an anouncement from Amiga concerning their partnership with Elbox licensing them the AmigaDE or AmigaOne ?
Elbox showed that they are not the best at licensing technologies.
Did someone from Amiga acknowledged Elbox licensing the AmigaDE ?

[Fleecy] Tach: the AmigaOne is an exclusive deal with bPlan and Eyetech but
anyone else can go for "powered by DE" status - we are talking to Elbox about
that now.

In the FAQ of AmigaOne they promise Amiga classic software
compatibility but they refer only to 68k...what about the classic
Amiga PPC software? You'll have to through your PPC board just to
buy an AmigaOne and run 68k Amiga apps. If G4 is only usable by
AmigaDE I'd rather spend my money on a cheaper PC 1Ghz etc...

G3 and G4 will be supported by WarpOS, won't they ?
That was stated since the very beginning of the project. And that's why Hyperion make such "high-end" games on WarpOS : to feed our future G4's with something consistant :-)

I'm not quite sure what that means. The AmigaOne replaces
any accelerator you may have. So the 500MHz G3 (or whatever)
runs everything. 68K apps, WarpOS apps, AmigaDE apps.

Anyway, our classic amiga are stuffed enough, I'll go for amigaone.
BTW, Fleecy Moss will attend the show as well, this is mentioned on the alt.woa flyer
I received from Eyetech.

So isn`t it WarpOS+AmigaOne the PPC native AmigaOS4.0 we all waited or what?
WarpOS will be the main kernel and exec the emulated one, isn`t it the same thing it does MorphOS? AmigaOne will
come with a MATROX gfx card, does this means that exists a WarpOS or Exec driver or the classic AmigaOs will use AGA!!! throw your gfx cards for AGA!

Hi!
As the 68k Emulation of Haage&Partner is basing on the WarpOS libraries (I am
Betatester of the Emulation, so I know about what I am speaking) I assume so, that
you can run WOS on it, yes :) And 68k executables also...

In reply to Comment 21 (Phil):
Hi!
G3 is not sooo different from the 604e. Only thing needed to run WOS on
a system like the AmigaOne is a Driver for the AmigaOne (and of course
the 68k Emulator), so that the WOS knows how to access the PPC on the Board.
As EyeTech said on the WOA: Initially the Board will run the Amiga Classic OS,
later (on release) also AmigaDE. So you get both with the AmigaOne, Classic
compatibility and later AmigaDE :)

Hyperion is neutral because it's a company with several people trying to do the best to live in this market.
Ben Yoris is an human with his own opinion who, like anybody else, want to express them :)

In reply to Comment 28 (Ben Yoris):
Ben Yoris the person should remember his opinions are liable to spread some FUD around since they're based on his having knowledge of what Hyperion is doing.
Why don't you just clarify:
* Do you have any knowledge that Elbox is/is not working with Hagge to allow use of WarpOS and 68k compatibility? If so, which?
* If you can do "nothing" with that setup, does that mean that Hyperion has dropped their promise to do a Warp3d driver for Voodoo3 on the Mediator? Seeing as how you've not talked about supporting it for a long time, but instead only the DCE board and the AmigaOne (none of which are on sale at the moment! :), coupled with the "nothing statement", I'd like to know.

In reply to Comment 25 (Dagon):
>So isn`t it WarpOS+AmigaOne the PPC native AmigaOS4.0 we all waited or what?
Not really. AmigaOS is still 68K, which has to be emulated, so while the result
on a fast G3/G4 will hopefully be at least a little faster than a 68060, it won't
be anything like a PPC-native OS.
>WarpOS will be the main kernel and exec the emulated one, isn`t it the same thing
>it does MorphOS?
No, MorphOS seems to be a PPC-native OS.
>AmigaOne will come with a MATROX gfx card
I seriously doubt it. Maybe eventually there will be AmigaOne/Matrox
card bundles.
>does this means that exists a WarpOS or Exec driver or the classic
>AmigaOs will use AGA!!! throw your gfx cards for AGA!
Well, yes, AmigaOS will use AGA if you use an AGA screen mode, otherwise
it will use whatever graphics card you have plugged in. I guess A1200
users of the AmigaOne would want a Voodoo3 card since there are drivers
for that already. Eventually the "next generation" Matrox card will be
released and if there is any sense in the world someone will write
drivers for that too (what with it being used for native AmigaDE).

In reply to Comment 29 (Mike):
Hey stop being so cynical, will you ?
First, if Elbox was working with H&G, don't you think we would all know that ? In a press release for example ?
Then please understand a good time for all that Hyperion is NOT involved in the development of Warp3D.
This is up to the Warp3D Team, and they made it clear that "a Mediator driver will come in due time" dixit one of the Frieden's somewhere in these pages.
And prepare to read MANY of my opinions on this page, as being the PR manager for Hyperion won't prevent me from using my VERY legitimate right of expression.
C'mon, we're not in the world of M$, NDA, secret defense blablabla... And when there's something I know I must keep secret I know how to behave.
I don't need to be taught lessons about my behaviour about my personal opinions, thanks.
