Fleecy explains what normal users can do to make the next AmigaOS a success: Buying products, subscribing to magazines, evangelising to the world, nagging non Amiga developers to get on board, showing off to your friends, forming Amiga clans and kicking non Amiga clan backsides in games, joining and participating in local Amiga User groups, and working in Team Amiga and other internet based groups. (..) We should start some sort of almost evangelical thing - A target of 50,000 registered OS4 users, and all work towards that end. I have to admit that the "evangelical thing" sounds pretty scary to me. :)

Nice one Fleecy - tell me how I can run OS4 on my A4000 in an Ateo Tower, my un-towered A1200 or my x86 PC that I can run the SDK on and I will do it!!!

Just sell your 4000 and buy a tower for your 1200.
For the PC do what you want ;)
Buy the Amigaone and put it in the nice new tower.

An A4000 isnt much use to anyone if you cant use the new OS on it though is it?
So anyone want an Ateo towered A4000 with Apollo 68040/40 with 64mb RAM, Cybervision 64 (? I think!), Ariadne II, several gigs of drives, PowerFlyer 4000, CDROM, ZIP.
Offers to ben@pissed.co.uk

Oh come on now!! You really expect Amiga Inc to keep cranking out OS'es to support
the 68K processor? Let alone an Apollo 040? we need to move foward dude. My A3000
is equiped with an CS 060, CV64 and tons of goodies, and I know damn well to move
foward you cannot support the 68K processor forever! Try running MacOS 9.0 on a 68K
Mac dude.
I can feel for P5 PPC card owners, but not peeps with just 68k including myself.
Hopefully there will be a compliance package for the PPC owners, however we need to
move foward.

What in ghod's name could Goodfellow Moss be thinking? Has he taken to inhaling the fumes of industrial solvents? Amiga users evangelising? *EVANGELISING!!!*
Scandalous, utterly scandalous. Disgusting and purient. WHo in the world has *EVER* heard of Amiga users evangelising? Never in a million years would *ANY* Sane Amiga User stoop to the self-pollution of evangelising about the Amiga. We are Amiga Users! The James Deans of the computer world!!!
BTW: Make sure you all send Urban more abusive email. That really helps matters greatly.

Nice to see they are coping with the fact they havent got enough money to market products well.

If anyone actually READS WHAT HE SAYS you will see that he advocates nothing more than active participation and support of the already dwindling Amiga community. Jeez... How 'radical' can subscribing to an Amiga mag be?
Let's really create chaos by joining a user group.. yeah...
I wish we *had* something like Unreal Tournament - then we could have a decent 3D fp shooter with Amiga clans.
I for one support Fleecy's statement - there is nothing bigotted in his text. Lets all just stay in the shadows and die quietly, eh?...
My personal opinion is that Fleecy is just
saying "If you've got it, flaunt it!"
(Just my proactive two cents... Dave.)

You missed my point - I dont want a 68k OS - thats why I bought an x86 that is capable of running the SDK only to find that the "new OS" is gonna be tied to PPC.
I want a PPC solution for my A4000 so I can get more use out of all the things I have bought for it, rather than having to buy a whole load of new A1200 stuff.
Eyetech said they would support certain A4000 towers and have now gone back on that.
AMIGA INC SHOULD BE SUPPORTING A4000 USERS AS MUCH AS ANYONE ELSE - WITHOUT WANTING TO SOUND LIKE A SNOB A4000 USERS HAVE PAID MORE MONEY ON THAT MODEL BECAUSE THEY HAVE ****MORE MONEY TO SPEND!!!****

I think it is time to look at things a little differently. Using an A1200 or
4000 etc. with an AmigaOne is just a temporary option. When you purchase an
AmigaOne you are buying a completely new Amiga system that just happens
to allow custom chip access through older models. It's time to buy into some
new technology or be happy with what's available right now for your system.
It's tough to stop the "upgrading" mentality after years of making our great
machines do the impossible. I think fresh new things happening in the Amiga
world can only be a good thing. Keep your current Amiga and get a new AmigaOne
they will compliment each other nicely.

Remember that Amiga Inc isn't making any hardware. If you want a
A4k solution then talk to the hardware manufacturers, like eyetech,
dce, elbox etc. Or try to apply for a license yourself to build
an A4k solution. Eyetech is just an Amiga inc. partner and Amiga inc
just can't go to them an say "You MUST provide an A4k solution". It's
totally up to Eyetech what they find viable to do in the current market.
Amiga Inc will not be making any hardware on their own, they are a
software company. And if no one wants to build a certain hardware
solution it simply won't be built, no matter how much users demand
of Amiga Inc that they should support them in a certain hardware
area.

Your arguements have no logic.
Lets start off with your X86 arguement shall we? This goes for all the people out there who said they bought an X86 for the DE. Rubbish. It was just an excuse especially when you say that it is *able* to run the SDK, not that it is. The DE will come out for X86, that hasn't changed it's just that at the same time the current OS will be delveloped in order to merge the two for OS5. Fleecy has stated that (all going well) the DE will be released by christmas.
It's not like you lost out in buying a PC, it isn't useless is it? Infact it is probably far more useful than the amiga systems you currently own.
Holding on to old hardware makes no sense at all. MOVE ON! Yeah you spent more on an A4000. So what? a)the A4000 is a 8 year old system! b)It wasn't made by Amiga Inc. so how do they owe you?
If you are *REALLY* deperate to keep your A4000 wait for the A4000 mediator and the SharkPPC+. Eyetech and bplan are offering brand new systems for either AmigaOS4 or MorphOS, Elbox and DCE are offering PCI based solutions. The future paths are there you just have to stop moaning and decide on which one you want to take.
As for Eyetech "Dropping" the A4000 version, there isn't any point in them developing it in the first place if OS4.2 comes out at the end of the year, there won't be and compatibilty issues, hence no need for either a A1200 or a A4000
As for your stupid A4000 people have more money arguement, if that is the case then it won't kill you to go out and buy an old 2nd Hand A1200 for a tenner will it?
It's the first time in 7 years that an amiga company have had a brand new amiga for you to go out and buy, and all you do is moan.

Is the AmigaOne a brand new Amiga? No... It is a platform capable of running AmigaOS 4, it is not an Amiga. the Amiga computer is not and will not be manufactored anymore. The AmigaOne is not per definition a new Amiga. Amiga Inc is not making a new Amiga, are they? Eyetech are making a zico capable mainboard. That's all.

A new piece of hardware running the original Amiga OS
isn't an Amiga? That is a pretty silly line of thought.
It has Amiga OS and is compatible with current software
and upgrades the functionality with DE etc. This is exactly
where Amiga needs to go. Heck my 68060 A1200 is cool this
is going to be awesome!!!!

Um, what is all of this "new A1200 stuff" that you're talking about? Going by
your list, everything is either redundant/has to be replaced anyway (gfx card, network card), or transferable (all the drives of various sorts).
So where's the load of A1200 stuff that you have to buy? I ask because you're
not the only one to say that. There's the A1200 motherboard, and...er, that's
it....

No Fleecy - Sorry! One too often. How often did i have to find myself embarrassed
because i spoke to everyone and his dog about the upcoming new fascinating Amiga world
and nothing happened. Again and again. I understand you are not responsible for what
your predecessors did, but you also have to understand my point of view.
Bring out the final thing, let it be available, let me have it and if it does what you
promise i have no problems in spreading the word. But not one single day earlier!

Not this year.

Licensing the a4k design and licensing to make an zico complient ppc board
for a4k is two very different things. Which do you mean ?
If the former then that is a totally different discussion as it's not
even close to the same technical solution. And there may be hundreds of
different reasons for them to turn down such an idea.
If the latter, then perhaps there were other things about your proposal
that they didn't see as something bringing fruit. Just because you
want to do something it doesn't mean that Amiga Inc mustn't agree to that
it is achievable or be a sound idea before handling out a license. Eyetech
has a license for it (obviously). Perhaps you should find out why eyetech
was not turned down while you were.
(It may be your childish "foot in the mouth"-attitude for all I care,
it's always nice to see how civil some people are in the Amiga 'world')
And besides it is still not up to Amiga Inc to deliver hardware solutions
,which is what the discussion was about and what was the whole point of
my message. Delivering hardware is up to their hardware partners.

Your arguement is flawed. If that is the case then the A1000 was the only Amiga
made. All the others were made by Commodore. OS2+ were not amigaOSs
Put this way an Amiga is a computer that makes use of Amiga IP either through
hardware or software.
Your sad negative attitude is starting to bore me.

You don't HAVE to buy anything. But hey as you are an A4000 user you can buy

I am the owner of an Amiga Technologies' A4000T with a Cyberstorm060/60, a bunch of ram, a picasso4, an ethernet and multi I/O, etc... I am a bit angry with the announcement of AmigaOS 4 because it is stated that it will require an A1200 motherboard to run old apps. That is just crap. I don't want to buy an A1200 to finish Amiga Inc's stock of 1200, I want a new machine I don't want AGA compatibility because I already have an A4000T, I'm proud of it and I'm not going to sell it. So I have to wait for AmigaOS 4.2... that is crap. Or should I buy a crappy 1200 buy a scandoubler, (somebody uses 15khz monitors nowadays?) buy a shitty tower and buy a high density floppy disk drive, and have two boards floating inside a bad looking and uncomfortable tower? I moved from my 1200 to my 4000 because I hated hacks. Come on, I want a new machine, I don't need AGA compatibility, so you can trow out the logic needed for the atx main board to connect it to an A1200... I don't want to buy an A1200, it was supposed that AmigaOS4 wouldn't require old hardware, and if you wait to release AmigaOS 4.2 you will have to wait to see any sales, because that is what people wants, they want to sell their old A1200s and have a new machine, imagine that a friend wants the new Amiga, he just has bought the board with AmigaOS4 when he realizes that he has to attach a 8 year old motherboard, trow out its atx tower because the stupid a1200 board doesn't fit, etc... listen Amiga Inc, if you do this, you will loose sales, you should release AmigaOS 4.2 directly, so don't hold your breath waiting to see lot of AmigaOS4.0 sales... by the way please, talk to DCE, they should make the AmigaOS4.x compatibility layer now or many PPC owners will be disapointed and will switch to morphos, it offers now hardware independency, virtual memory, multiprocessor support... and I hope that the pegasus runs AmigaOS4.2 because I can't see the point in buying the eyetech's solution because I don't want AGA compatibility...

So where's your problem dude?
You only need an 1200 with the Eyetech AOne when you plan to have access to Agnus,
Paula, Denise, Copper, Blitter, AGA chips. If you don't want that, just don't plug
one in. It will run 4.0 just fine and most 3.x programs that use libraries only.
And bplan's plan was/is quite the same. Doing a PCI card with AGA onboard.
Don't get that if you don't want that. Simple.
How is this difficult to understand?
