OK time to kill some wasted bandwidth here

Heres an official statement.

"OS4.0 will run existing WarpOS apps"

Well. What about an official statement like "AmigaOS4.0 is real.
Development is progressing well and it is still on schedule!"

It may seem like a waste of time to those involved in the AmigaOne/OS4.x projects to make statements which (to them) simply states the bloody obvious, but these facts are needed by the comunity in order to squash stupid rumours before they start. It never ceases to amaze me how individuals with zero knowledge on a particular subject are more than happy to write a 5000 word posting on the failings of a piece of hardware/software. I know it's not long now until the AmigaOne is released, but a few pictures on the Eyetech website of a technician jabbing a motherboard with a soldering iron or some concept art of the packaging would be nice. Likewise, H&P could give us a few screenshots of 4.0 running... or even crashing.

They've done that.

In reply to Comment 2 (Darrin):
That last point is a very good one, as I would never trust something which doesn't
crash. If a program never crashes, there must be something very wrong. (I wrote a disk
access routine yesterday which worked on the first attempt. That was scary.)

Read the AmigaOne mailing list from the last couple of days.

The question simply is: Who cares for OS4? Who cares for H&P? Who cares for Amiga Inc?
Who cares for some ppc monster which can or can not be connected to an a1200 board which is designed by a guy who did this great BRAINSTORMER G3 superduper accelerator which takes over Z3 and also has it's own gfx card announced but which is of course available since years.
Emphasis of all this mentioned companies and persons is: fuck reputation

Heh,
time to waste some more bandwidth then...
Will programs which utilize the ppclib emulation library under WarpOS on Amiga3.x
work under AmigaOS 4.x ? :-)

Concerning Brainstormer:
JoeCard

Anything else?

In reply to Comment 10 (Hans-Joerg Frieden):
JoeCard did exist though, just not released. They explained why at the time, a re-design was to be(got?) designed, but they never finished it or took it to market.
And theres been varying reports on just how much of the CStormGx and BoXer has been done, but its hard to know what to believe there.
Thing is with the A1 not only have their been pictures of the A1200 expansion taken, but its been displayed (the mobo) @ an amiga show, and demonstrated with photos to proove it to some other bunch of people.
Naturally a RUNNING demonstration will be alot more impressive, but Eyetech dont claim to have finished it yet either to do this.

Hi!
AmiJoe existed - but due to a screwed up memory-bus it only worked, if you did use
it without RAM. Remaking the memory-bus is basically starting from scratch on
designing the PPC Board... was bad luck... probably the reason why it did not
get released.

In reply to Comment 14 (Cybes):
To be fair, the AmigaOne and the BoXeR are _both_ at the stage where
non-working prototype boards have been shown but nobody has seen a
working version.
The difference is the time scale. The BoXeR board was shown about 2
years ago.
I believe much of the hold up here has been because Altera chips big
enough to emulate AGA were too expensive for a commercially viable
board, and prices haven't gone down as fast as they were expected to.
The AmigaOne is technically much more straightforward and so more
likely to appear in the scheduled year.

I belive none of the OS 4 or A1 will be out before October and I estimate that if it canot sold until cristmas this will be the end of the story just like boxer.

I believe AmigaOne will be available VERY soon. I have met Alan at the last two Amiga Shows in St. Louis, MO, USA. I have sat in the audience while he decribed the AmigaOne concept. It just makes perfect sense and considering there are about 80,000 A1200 Motherboards available for use from Petro's warehouse - what better way to kick the Amiga into the next generation? My advice is to buy one ASAP or you will regret not being a part of the future of our beloved Amiga after all these years of waiting and waiting.

The BoXeR was first shown in 1997. That's four years ago. Although agreed, it has been redesigned since... I would be happy to see it though after all these years. It was nice to see iFusion surface too, if for no other reason than just the fact that the work didn't go all wasted...

If someone can recall, the first Amiga was also late by a year, or so, because they wanted an exhaustivly worked out system. I think it were worth it! (Sadly MP has been leaved out for Commodore's order.)

Commodore HAD the money to delay the product..
And don't forget it was a NEW product and the development in technology these years was slow.
Now Eyetech and all the companys involved in amiga including Amiga INC. Don't have the money and the time frame for delays.
Amiga is at the edge of disappearance and they will not making a unique machine.
They are just trying to cach up.
