comp.sys.amiga.morphos newsgroup to be established? : Comment 51 of 63ANN.lu

In reply to Comment 50 (PaulT):
Yes, keeping it strictly "correct" would make usenet completely
useless imo. :)
I mean, nowadays more and more people using "Amiga" use emulators, so
comp.sys.amiga.* becomes more and more inappropriate, those people
should use comp.os.amiga.* instead. Then of course, a lot of the
discussion in comp.sys.amiga.misc is more "misc" than Amiga anyway, so
it should rather be comp.sys.misc.amiga or even comp.misc.sys.amiga or
comp.misc.os.amiga. And come on, comp.sys.amiga.marketplace, isn't
that often more about selling stuff than it is about Amiga? Surely a
lot of the posts there should rather go in something like
comp.marketplace.sys.amiga. Most posts in comp.sys.amiga.advocacy
would rather belong in comp.sys.advocacy.amiga,
comp.os.advocacy.amiga, comp.advocacy.sys.amiga,
comp.advocacy.os.amiga, comp.advocacy.amiga.sys or
comp.advocacy.amiga.os.
Yes. I do know a lot of these groups don't belong in the current
usenet hierarchy. But why not? Because even though it makes sense
*logically*, it doesn't fill its purpose. Groups are split up and
specialised when there is enough traffic to make that necessary, not
just because it makes sense logically.

In reply to Comment 44 (Andreas Kleinert):
Actually, comp.sys.pegasos.morphos makes *less* sense than comp.sys.amiga.morphos. Assuming that is, that MorphOS wouldn't run on third party PowerPC hardware, which we know it to. Comp.os.morphos makes the absolute most sense, but comp.sys.morphos would be allowable, as it is, in its self, a system standard. Comp.sys.powerpc.pegasos would be the appropriate place for Pegasos related material currently, as it easily allows any followers of c.s.ppc to find it. Don't gorget, Pegasos is just one PowerPC design. Surely if they are successful, they won't stop there, eh?

In reply to Comment 44 (Andreas Kleinert):
Actually, it would be comp.sys.bpla : comp.sys.bplan.pegasos &c. That would be the appropriate way. Note that Apple doesn't have a comp.sys.imac, comp.sys.titanium, &c. (Not that I don't doubt someone has tried to do so.)
Remember, comp.sys newsgroups are supposed to follow UseNet regulations. Alt groups on the other hand, well, are another matter entirely.

In reply to Comment 46 (Bladerunner):
Comp.sys.amiga.morphos suits Amiga users running Morph. Comp.os/sys.morphos is logical for general Morph concerns. Personally, I believe they should attempt to set up:
comp.os/sys.morphos
and
comp.os/sys.morphos.developers
Whatever happens, I am getting tired of this arguement. I have been using UseNet under various e-mail addresses for about 19 years. I know the game well enough by now...

In reply to Comment 47 (Bill Hoggett):
Bill: I completely agree with this. I woudl also approve of the three proposed, witht he addition of comp.os.morphos.developers. That is also an important discussion forum, and developers + users conversing in one place, given the right atmosphere, is confusing to normal users.

In reply to Comment 50 (PaulT):
A given example, rec.cars.amc would be appropriate for AMC owners. Rec.cars.chrysler.amc would not. For insyance, rec.cars.amc.amx; rec.cars.amc.javelin; rec.cars.amc.pacer; &c. Not that these groups exist..but think about it..would it be logical to have these groups under rec.cars.chrysler? Even now that Chrysler owns AMC, it wouldn't...

In reply to Comment 55 (RC):
That's why I said: comp.os.morphos.* as the MorphOS hierarchy. This would include .developers, .applications, .games, .advocacy etc.
Far more appropriate and flexible than just having one group called comp.sys.amiga.morphos for all general MorphOS discussions, even those that have nothing to do with Amigas.
However, it seems dissenting voices are not allowed. I'm told this vote is only for people who approve of the proposed arrangement. :O

Shouldn't MorphOS stuff be discussed in comp.sys.amiga.emulators with UAE, Amithlon, and AmigaXL... Even though it's more like a bare linux kernal running just WINE. Hmm, that would make it similar to Amithlon...
Don't stomp on other people's IP without permission or licence.

OK, once again. comp.sys is for the Computersystems right? ok, than comp.sys.amiga is for the Architecture Amiga , also right?
So why is it a Problem when MOS is running on PPC equipped Amigas to put it right on comp.sys.amiga.morphos ???
there is nothing wrong with this, as there can mos related questions discussed.
Later next year, according to your opinion, it should be no problem to create
comp.sys.pegasos.whatever
comp.os.morphos.whatever
But then rember, there should therefor a com.sys.pegasos.OS4.0 where only pegasos Owner discuss and a seperate
comp.sys.amiga.OS4.0 where only amiga equipped Users discuss...
You see how stupid this is? ah, not to forget comp.sys.pc.Amithlon
So we would sepereate each other.. step by step!
I wouldn`t agree with such a hierachie, it looks very childish! We are Amiga Users, and MOS is a real Amiga Product (not the company called Amiga,
but the developers behind MOS) So there is no reason why we should sepereate each other!

In reply to Comment 58 (Amiga User 295):
What makes you think mos is juts an emulator? the only emulation is the 68k Jit which
only emulates 68k related stuff. PPC Stuff runs direct. Also the OS itself runs native.
so if you say, MOS is an Emulator, you have to say the same about OS 4.0 , as it has similar concepts like MOS.
Or had Apple should call there PowerPC based Mac OS an Emulator, just because it runs 68k apps???

I think a MorphOS related newsgroup is a great idea. I think people
who are disinterested in MorphOS or even opposed to it should be too,
so they don't have to bother about MorphOS discussions.
Whether it's comp.os.morphos, comp.sys.morphos
or comp.sys.amiga.morphos is really less important imho. But I have
one thing to say to those who vehemently oppose
comp.sys.amiga.morphos because it's not "Amiga": Fine. But then make
sure to ban all discussions about AmigaXL, Amithlon or AmigaDE
from comp.sys.amiga.* because these are certainly NOT about "systems",
Amiga or not.
Though personally, I think this would be silly..

I give up. I have made my points and arguments. Take them as you will. This thread has spun into a Morph vs Amiga war, and I don't subscribe tot hat crap. Period.
