Posted by Jan-Erik Karlsson on 02-Apr-2002 11:40 GMT | In reply to Comment 1 (catohagen): that depends on what he means by WMW/ASF playback since this is only a way of
storing the data it's not actually a codec in the usual sense it's more akin to
the IFF standard and how the data is stored and how you access it it's just
as illegal to play AVI files then as WMW/ASF files. |

Posted by jack on 02-Apr-2002 12:02 GMT | In reply to Comment 1 (catohagen): "isn't that illegal"
Not in Europe, no. EU law has a specific provision to allow reverse
engineering "for the purpose(s) of interoperability". As long as the
software is bought/sold within an EU country it's fine. If you're in
america you're screwed, though. :(
Having said that, you'll almost certainly get away with it. I'm not a
lawyer, but I expect any legal sanctions would apply mainly to the
developer, rather than the vendor, and if the developer is European
there's no recourse...
Perhaps Ben can clarify this if he's still around? |

Amiga Arena - Interview with Laszlo Torok : Comment 4 of 5 | ANN.lu |
Posted by redrumloa on 02-Apr-2002 12:22 GMT | Hmm he states MPEG1,2 and 4(divx) future support too. This would be nice! All the current mpeg players have a shortcoming of 1 type or another. Movid(Action) seems extremely fast and functional. I may have to buy Movid now. |

Posted by Bill T on 03-Apr-2002 20:12 GMT | Can anyone get an english translation posted someplace?
Amiga Arena's translate button doesn't seem to work here,
the DNS servers at home and work both send back unknown
domain name for the translation site. :/ |
