Nice interview, thank you!
So Fleecy is currently doing some OS5 design, still sounds like it will be based on OS4 though?
It will be exiting to see if the M$ deal will be a succes, if it will create enough revenue to fund further development of AA and OS5?
Let's hope so :-)

Thanks. I thought it was a pretty informative and Fleecy did a good job answering the questions. Although a few more questions have popped into my head after this. I may try and do a breif follow up!

Good thing in Fleecy is that if he don't know something he admits it instead of giving BS like McEven. Bad thing is. Who the hell knows about all those issues that are open (like Tshirts and AmigaClub etc..)? I have to admit they do sound more like McEven's great Ideas than Fleecy's but still.
Legal cases are still on hold. I wonder what they are waiting? Is it lack of money or are they just hodling back until MOS gets released?
Bernithlon goes to court.. Nothing new there. Never expected them to be able to sort that mess out.
That symbian-AADE player sounds interesting idea.. If they only could get someone to include into their mobiles.
In the end good interview.. I would have asked two question more..
"What your opinion about that interview in Extremetech?"
"Honestly?"

They where crap ideas to begin with but I guess it can't be long before Amiga (whoevers responsible) have to work something out.
"Legal cases are still on hold. I wonder what they are waiting? Is it lack of money or are they just hodling back until MOS gets released?"
Sounds like they are waiting for MOS to be released, after all it is also hard to sue someone for a Beta release.
"Bernithlon goes to court.. Nothing new there. Never expected them to be able to sort that mess out."
A shame that couldn't be settled in a peacefull manner, it will probably take ages if it goes to court;0(
"That symbian-AADE player sounds interesting idea.. If they only could get someone to include into their mobiles."
I don't think they can, but as long as it can be bought for both Smartphone/Pda and Symbian I don't see it as a huge problem.
Most software for the Orange Smartphone will be downloadable from their webportal (via the Smartphone) and you then pay the games on your normal phonebill. I guess Amiga will be present on the diffrent webportals, atleast the Orange one.
"In the end good interview.. I would have asked two question more..
"What your opinion about that interview in Extremetech?"
"Honestly?" "
Well I think he would have said that Bill was sounding optimistic and beeing slightly misquoted. That was what he said to me when I asked earlier yesterday:-)

Nice post dorks! How about you do something PRODUCTIVE for the Amiga community. I appreciate all the effort it took for you to log on to an Amiga website, click on the reply button then flame away! Why bother? It just shows you have nothing better to do with your time. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you don't like what you see you have two choices. 1-Change it (Which obviously is to HARD for you to do) or 2- LEAVE. No one is asking you hang around! This is what any mature, grown adult would do. Now go ask Mommy if you can stay up and play on the computer. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see things aren't perfect with the Amiga but your comments are BRILLIANT! BRAVO Eienstein!

Then what are you doing here? If it's so bad, just ignore the site. Your attitude is as bad as the guys' who have nothing but criticism for Amiga.
If you've never seen a thread here that's "worth reading," then either you haven't read many or else your interests are rather narrow. Anyway, attendance isn't compulsory, so feel free to go elsewhere.

We can't all use bandwith Patting Christian on the back, BUT
This is an _execellently_ maintained site, giving lots of leeway to express opinions (although Moobunny is WAY more liberal), updated (A+), and modified at a goodly pace. Any webmaster must get inundated by e-mail, and yet, he has such a good heart to keep it up for us, for years now. This must be a most difficult hobby, it doesen't run itself, plus the moderating (and other stuff, I'm sure)!!!
Yet people still show up trolling and insulting aspects of it. Hate this place? Start your own anti-Amiga web site and wait for us to visit.
Thank You, Christian.
And now, Oooooh, I'm getting chills. I think it's finaly happening. A new Amiga is about to come into the world, against overwhelming odds. This IS the computer that won't die. A veritable Hydra. I feel that this article lays out the fact that Amiga IS coming back, and WILL succeed in a BIG way, like it should have, so many years ago. Imagine, there were over 2 million users at one time. It can and will happen again!
We WILL revolutionize computing! Again!
Amiga! I, I , I can't resist ... AMIGA RULEZ!!!

Good interview. I didn't like Bill's atitude at all, on the mainsite's interview he did. On one side and doesn't want to advertize to big copanies/big investors, that they're doing a desktop OS wich is good, but on the other side, he screwed completely the exposition AmigaOS4 had on mainstream sites by saying AmigaOS5 will run on X86 hardware.
Bottom line. Many of the Amiga Comunity won't buy A1 anymore, and many old users won't buy the A1 anymore.
And there's no way I'm going to buy an A1 if the long term plan is to have AmigaOS run on Intel/Microsoft hardware. Sorry but there's more to it that just the hardware.

I will be buying back into the Amiga dream with an AmigaOne & OS4.0 purchase very soon! My only concern is that I need the SCSI card option to use my old data files and applications software! (Is there any news about this?)
Let the good times roll!
I am VERY happy with the future of our AMIGA once again.
If we all keep the faith and buy Amiga we will have a glorious future indeed!

"Intel/Microsoft hardware"
I really, honestly can't believe after, what, 15 odd years, people _still_ don't have a clue about this stuff.
Microsoft hardware? Oh, it runs on a Windows-chip?
And Intel didn't come up with the PC either - it was IBM (although we still have Intel to blame for the nastiness that is x86)
You do know you can run other OS's on an x86 box, right? And you can buy non-Intel CPUs? Yes, its all true.
Welcome to the 90s, or whatever.

This was a very good interview.
Fleecy sounds coherent and serious, both feet
on the ground. (Unfortunately I must confess I didn't feel at all the same about
Bill McEwen, but that's OT for this thread.) It's great that Fleecy talks about
OS5 the way he does. It's promising that AInc really do have some sort of future
plan for the OS (which we knew already, but this indicates they haven't forgot
about it ;-) I'm wondering though about Hyperion's future role in the
development of OS5... Not long ago (was it in the first interview on
AmigaSource? Think it was) Ben Hermans said they were involved in DE-integration
(or something to that effect, I don't remember exactly, and my comment on that
drowned in the general screaming here on ANN), maybe that was a hint to the
future?
DE sounds more interesting all the time, I think. Hopefully they can get that
new SDK out so that we normal mortals also can see what has been going on behind
the barriers of the NDA:s.
I must also say I really like the entusiasm of this guy doing the interviews, and the way he relly wants to improve/promote AmigaSource. The sheer joy he
displays makes me smile. Thanks. You are doing a good job so far, lad :-)

I suppose you can read his comment either way. I read it as meaning that, since
the licence requres you to provide post-sale support, you have to be able to
cover the cost of that support. This don't nessecarily mean you have to pay
AInc anything.
But I suppose you can interpret it both ways, depending on your viewpoint.

The Osborne syndrome is always a problem, but in this case I very much doubt that it will detract from sales. The AmigaOne and the Pegasos will obviously be picked up first by early adopters and developers.
More worrisome is the fact that a x86 support was pronounced with a timeline. Hyperion has indicated that this likely won't be coming from them.
A couple of questions:
1. Who owns the resulting OS4 code?
2. What is the delta between the Amithlon technology and a native x86 implementation of the OS?

I guess linux and Sun's SunOS (or is it Solaris) for x86 is just a myth.
Using your own backwards reasoning we could also argue that there's only two makers of the PPC chip and only one OS: MacOS. In which case, what's your point?!?

Alkis,
Of course getting licensed is not free. TANSTAAFL.
There might not be any direct fee to be payed to the licensor (well, there most likely is a royalty to be payed if an AInc-controlled trademark is to be used).
It doesn't matter to the hypothetical licensee if the Cost consists of funds to be transferred to the licensor only for the dubious "privilege" of being licensed, or if it's Cost arising from the licensing/dongling/bundling process, setting up a separate "Amiga" product line for the "special" version of his hardware product, buying AmigaOS from AInc, providing end-user support for the so-called "complete solution" et c.
It's Cost in either case, and what matters is that this extra Cost is not there when the hardware vendor sells his product "normally".
