After the recent information about AmigaOS4 and the AmigaOne appearing on Slashdot, it's now the turn of Genesi (with PegasOS and MorphOS) to be featured.

http://www.morphos-news.de/index.php?lg=en&nid=137&si=1 explains it.
It's basically a merger between Thendic-France (now independant of their US parent company) and bPlan.

If they don't care about MOS, I wonder why should they care about AOS4... Slashdot is definitely the latest place you'd hope to find people who are interested in commercial OSs, let alone rebirths or clones of old ones.

That would be too cool if Genesi could add the DE to it...
Rename and merger of bPlan and Thendic... is this a lesson in how to make two really bad company names sound even worse? Not a joke, just curious.

Finally, you people can find out that slashdot posters don't give a damn about anything Amigan.
No really, even if it ran some stupid distributed software designed to find aliens they couldnt' give a damn if they tried.
But if Linus farts in a high wind...

Here is something for you all to consider...;-)
Thendic (and all affiliated companies) hold a valid worldwide right and license to Amiga DE, the "Amiga" patents, and all associated copyrights and trademarks. This Agreement was signed between ourselves and Bill McEwen on 10 November 2000. The Agreement remains in effect today.
Who knows what the future could hold?!
Best regards,
Raquel and Bill

No, if this is true (sorry i doubt it a little, because this sounds too fantastic perhaps the wrong bill buck?! perhaps he could make a official statement?!?!?)
they can name Pegasos Amiga Peggy or whatever Amiga Name they like, they could Name MOS AmigaOS MOS Edition or whatever they like,
they can use every part of the Amiga patents for their Products (even for the OS?) and so on.
So nobody can say anymore, hey this is not Amiga.. and more important, then there are two Amiga Desktop OS...
Pheeew... But if this is true, why didn`t they mention this earlier?!?!?!??
<<<totaly confused

You must remeber that OS4 and DE are different products. Having a DE license doesn't mean they automatically have the OS4 license as well.
If you buy windows and you want to use office you'll still have to buy office. That kind of thing.

I am sorry to report that the statements made here are very misleading and incorrect.
The contract mentioned was for AmigaDE on Windows CE. It does not in ANY way have anything to do with patents, or our IP.
Amiga, Inc. is the only holder of our IP
Regards,
Bill McEwen

In reply to Comment 23 (Bill McEwen):
Dear Bill,
Of course, Amiga Inc. is the only holder of the IP. That is why we reached and Agreement about the license.
1. Please refer to Paragraph 4.2 concerning the issue you make about DE, the patents and the trademarks. You are incorrect. You are being "misleading," not us.
2. Yes, the list of products did initially include the SmartBoy which was developed for use with WindowsCE. However, the Agreement is quite clear that it applies to "any" Thendic product. We call your attention to Paragraph 2 of Appendix A specifically.
Bill, you have gone through a hard time and fought against incredible odds. Please do not let this this potential show of support become distored.
Sincerely,
R&B

I think that in the future you should atleast mention it's Amiga-compatible and can trun Amiga-software. Because if you don't you might well decline number of people who are interested about Amiga, no matter if they like OS4 or MOS. Noone knows that MOS is AmigaOS-compatible.

In reply to Comment 26 (Anonymous):
MOS is not Amiga OS 4 compatible, they never said it was....
they said it has some compatibility with older versions of Amiga OS.
Which is great, is has more compatibility than, for example, Windows 95 running UAE, or DOS running Fellow...both of which could also claim to have some level of Amiga compatibility, but far less compatibility than say Amiga OS 4, which is 100% compatible with Amiga OS 4....LOL :)
I am glad MOS has targetted the amiga community and has therefore added some features that make it more attractive to Amigans....but its not OS 4, and what we would really like, which is 100% compatibility with OS 4 and OS 4 PowerPC applications, isn't there.
Now if they get that, then I will consider Pegasos on par with Amiga XE, etc...and would probably buy one if its better and cheaper, but if it doesn't have that, then its way too expensive for being nothing more than an 'interesting diversion'....now at a certain pricepont I'll even just buy an interesting diversion....but I doubt they'll get it down to impulse buy pricing anytime soon.

@marktime:
As we told you and the others already on Amiga.org: There's no need for OS4-compatibility atm since OS4 on AOne won't be here for a long time. And chipset-independent 3.x Amiga-software -68k as well as PPC (PowerUp, WarpUp) DOES run on MorphOS.
Some quotes from Amiga.org:
Senex: "Just want to add the following from the latest press release for the game "Tales of Tamar": 'Tales of Tamar is now running on MorphOS for Amiga and Pegasos. It benefits form the WarpUP emulation in MorphOS, which even seems to be faster than the original.'"
JoeAFUA: "As there are no native AmigaOS 4 applications for now yes indeed it's hard to be compatible with them. In fact the "AmigaOS 4" we see in the screenshots isn't compatible with these applications too (which is in fact an AmigaOS 3.x with some components planned for AmigaOS 4) :)"
Senex: "Who cares? It will still take a long time until OS4 will run on the AmigaOne (and therefore for OS4-only apps). Just because integrating the 68k-emu and all the different components takes much time and reveals many new problems. Just look at the progress the MorphOS-team made - they as well needed very much time for these steps. And if you'd need such a OS4-application really badly, you could still code an A4-Box for MorphOS."
JoeAFUA: "Yes indeed and I would add: Look at the development time of other OSes like Linux, Windows, MacOS, MacOS X, OpenBeOS...etc. You can see that even when the OS is ready (I mean everything is running together and almost complete, which is even not the case of AmigaOS 4 today), the betatesting period is at least of 6 months and even 1 year. The public betatesting period of the Jaguar update of OS X (I just talk about complete builds betatesting) have taken one year, and it's just an update for OS X 10.1 which is nothing compared to a complete port that need kernel rewrite and some other parts rewrite like OS 4. The same can be said for every OSes on the market. So according to what we see in the computing industry as soon as the first complete build will be ready for betatests, Joe Users will still have to wait at least 6 months or 1 year because of the needed betatesting period."

Actually Windows + UAE can run more classic Amiga programs than either morphos or AmigaOS 4.
