"Mother Goose" writes: In a rare interview with Dr Haruyasu Yoshizaki, author of the LhA compression technology, the good doctor sheds some light on what to expect on future versions of this classic Amiga software. (The hyperlink will take you to the English translation) Note that this does not have any direct relation to the Amiga apart from the possibility that future versions might be ported.

Posted by Amiga-fan on 06-Jan-2003 01:39 GMT | And I thought the author of LhA was the swede Stefan Boberg, who also later worked for Team 17!?! |

the original Amiga version of LHA? |

Posted by Solar on 07-Jan-2003 09:00 GMT | I feel pretty much annoyed with the current "maintainers" of Amiga LhA at lha.warped.com.
The last version they did release was 2.1, and they did release it as an .lha packed archive - really smart.
I had provided them with a German translation of the manual, as agreed, but they didn't update their release *until this very day*. (That was *three years* ago, damn it!) So I released util/arc/LhA.run to Aminet - note that this one is self-extracting as it should be.
Neil Palumbo has provided a v2.2 patch that solves the Y2K problem and another date issue. Reputedly, that patch was "approved" by the maintainer (Jim Cooper), and released as util/arc/LHA22.lha to Aminet. (Though not containing the German docs, and not being self-extracting.)
lha.warped.com still has the old v2.1 release.
What happened here is, the Amiga LhA sources are *still* not available for continued development, only now it's Jim Cooper not responding instead of Stefan Boberg (and there *is* something to be done, see http://lha.warped.com/ToDo.html). Users that want a state-of-the-art Amiga LhA with German docs still have to download *two* versions (LhA.run to get LhA and the docs, LHA22.lha to get the Y2K patched version).
Someone go and kick J.C.'s backside. >:-( |
