I wish I could do a better summary, but of course the filtering software they are using here doesn't even let me access Yahoo groups.

Also notice the cheap shots at ANN... twice...

I can't see anything on that link that backs up this news story.

Contains an explanation of Mai

Terrasoft points:
#1 TerraSoft are really a very small company.
#2 TerraSoft did not contribute to porting YDL
#3 TerraSoft messed up their TeronPX/G4 pricing calculations.
#4 No one has to pay a license fee to TerraSoft
#5 TerraSoft has to apply to us to be a dealer.

ANN points:
#1 ...misconceptions that have been relentlessly been put about by certain individuals on ann and elsewhere...
#2 The ann orcs will make something sinister of this...

Just another hysterical ANN story. He makes no cheap shots at ANN, he makes
valid references to some of the sad folk that can't restrain themselves from
spreading bullcrap on ANN and calls THEM orcs. Not ANN - THEM.

In reply to Comment 2 (DaveP):
But of course... if one company mentions another company in a communique
it is clearly libel.

There are three possibilities here:
#1 You do not understand what libel means.
#2 Your bias is showing through.
#3 There is some reference in there that I have not picked up.

Me? I think #2.

Didn't I say in comment #1 that I was writing this from memory because I cannot access the link right now? I have now reworded most of it.

Of course he doesn't outright insult ANN. But it's just one more in a long line of attempts to discredit ANN by dismissing anything that is being said on here as a "misconception" and all posters as "orcs".

FYI: there's more in the Alan's post than just the Terrasoft info

(about 1.3Ghz CPU, XE deliveries in about two-three weeks, etc...)

In reply to Comment 1 (Christian Kemp):
Haven't you heard? both Ann.lu and Amiga.org are rogue websites because you don't burn books. This message is a perfect example of the attitude that can't be expressed on state sponsored websites. After everything you've done for everyone you will have to endure public condemnation in spite of your efforts, because of a percieved opinion you have or your percieved failure to do missionary work.

I guess the fact that I for one, joined the club, and ordered an AmigaOne both from links on this very site and a bannerad here, arn't enough to hold you above harm in their witchhunt. What a crazy market.

In reply to Comment 8 (Christian Kemp):
No. In comment #1 you said you wished you could post a better summary. You
didn't say "I disagree with the libel bit". However I would be happy to admit
I am wrong about your motives.

Secondly, I don't think it is an attempt to discredit ANN, the lame behaviour
over the last couple of days has been on ANN. Elsewhere we have had civil
debate and even on MooBunny the post was made and no followups ( better check
that nothing since then ) were made.

If he had meant to discredit ANN he would have said something about ANN and
not the commenters. Commenters != moderators != news story != site.

The subject line that you saw was the one used by the original poster, which (a) I forgot to edit, (b) I don't necessarily agree with and (c) have corrected in the meantime.

And all these accusations of bias are getting old... If my bias was really showing through, I'd probably be plugging some alternative x86 platform at every possible occasion. So what was your point, again?

T_Bone, with the utmost respect and I DO respect you, if the post had contained
snide references to "the other side" or "splitters" or "rebellion" or direct
references which would make me think that it was asserting some kind of
anti-journalism then I would say so and would do what I did on AmigaWorld.net
which was post complaints until a thread was deleted as being inflammatory
about MorphOS/Pegasos. With the help of Laire.

I cannot see anything on there to substantiate it. People were making up what
came into their heads on the other thread on here and we can't deny it. We can't
even say that all posters on here act with maturity given the comments recently.

I don't know why this has to be dragged down to the Amiga.org/AmigaWorld.net
flamewar yet again.

Yes, this happens if I change a submitted news item so much that there's nothing left of the original text. Not much use saying "Posted by" and then having text written by me all over the place.

And the original news item just had the subject line you saw, and an URL. I first added some text, submitted, moved to "News", then read your coments, edited, then realized what the subject still said, edited again, read some more comments, edited again, and will hopefully be able to work on other stuff now. :)

Because I'm old and cranky, I missed most of the other flamewar, and there's a timezone difference of a half day, you're just waking up after closure from yesterdays flames while here, I'm still ranting before going to bed. :)

DaveP: Original message was posted by someone anonymous... And it had stupid title.

And to get back into real story. Is it news? Well... Delivering these boards would be news, these delays and excuses have become monthly items. Only good things I can see is that Eyetech is still around and that OS4 comes closer. With this ongoing trend, OS4 may well be released before AmigaOne-XE:s :)

Only intersting info was confirmation that they are biggest (=only) client to those Articia-S/Teron boards. Was not really big surprice, but it's interesting to see how that can be turned to positive.

I totally agree with you!!!

This was no cheap shot at ANN at all, Christian.

But what is posted in the forums by a number of users is misinformation and this means that at least the forum comments have become unreliable. Just look a few threads back where Ben Hermans was spoofed like hell.

And there are users who believe those comments allthough you can see in the writing style that it's not him.

When you have that system with special users, thrusted users and so up, people have at least a differentiation between crap and fact.

Christian, I agree with you on this one.

That is very unfortunate, but quite frequent when reading communications from Amiga Inc. and partners - valid commentary is being dismissed all the time, if not directly then at least indirectly.

If TerraSoft can't sell these things for $500 or less they probably don't want to bother. You're already pushing the limit for what a Linux hobbyist will pay.

Well I guess we'll have to wait and see if Kai will make any announcements now. There sure was a lot of fanfare involved. I even won their little contest.

I hate delays, people keep mentioning Amigaworld everywhere i go and insulting it and i know why, let me explain before attacking.

I was a member but got a private message from MikeB and was told to shut up insulting Amiga inc and then got warned if i say anything else i will be banned.

My comment i put on Amigaworld is below and judge for yourself.

Hi folks

Amiga inc really are bad for the Amiga and i see no hope for the Amiga when they are in charge and they seem to act very stupid when it comes to announcments.

Do not alienate your users.

Cheap shots???

He's right isn't he?

It's not like he's talkin bad about ANN but just about SOME of the users. You as a webmaster here should be very aware of that.

I think it was directed mainly at all the lying anonymous posters, Colin etc. But offcourse you can allways read somthing bad and personal out off it, IF you really want to.

I have to agree here.

Much like Alan has done now, I have in the past expressed concerns about the quality of discussion here and elsewhere.

These endless flamewars, impersonations, silly recriminations, personal insults etc. are very off putting to many users.

It's just a handful of people doing this on either side of the debate but they ruin the experience for many of us.

This has nothing to do with ANN as such nor with the excellent job Christian & Co are doing here.

I certainly hope that the "trusted user" option will go so way to remedy this.

You have to admit that is a bit flamebait. You could have got your point
across in a much less inflammable way than "I think Amiga Inc are bad for
the Amiga userbase" or "act very stupid" with the kind of reasoned post
that firstly is on AmigaWorld already ( saying the same thing but explaining
PROPERLY why ) or that Keith did yesterday here on ANN.

However, I didn't see your post go up and I didn't see a response from MikeB
so we just have your word for it. Unless you want to give us your userid and

There are no cheap shots at ann, and he is not "trying to discredit ann". I like ANN, i come here every day almost, but I don't think Alan was out of order with those two Ann references.

Where else on the whole of the internet would complete arseholes heckle the producers of not-for-profit magazines and freeware software?

Where else would anyone who doesn't slam everything Alan says in every post that has anything to do with eyetech be branded a "blind eyetech loving worshipper idiot", and anyone who does put down Eyetech or Amiga, Inc is immediately branded a "stupid MOS lover"?

The problem is not with the site itself, the problem is with the vocal minority of people who feel the need to contribute despite having the mental age of a toddler, and with all the personal abuse hurled at Mr. Redhouse by those people, i'm not surprise he singled out the ANN trolls for comment.

Do not take this personally Christian!

The site is a good Amiga site but the problem is not the site but really with just one individual, Mr Bouma could be a really nice person but his pro Amiga attitude is really over the top and will ruin a good site with his defensive attitude towards people who are not willing to just agree with him.

I really do hope Amigaworld does well but i will not become a member of any website which has someone like that as a site admin.

I don't want to get into a position of defending Mike. He can do that for

If they have a problem with Mike as a site administrator then they should
contact DaveyD and let him know and why. If not all this public posturing

just being used by some as an excuse to criticise others whilst at the same

2) Tell DaveyD what you think about the situation, if he changes the situation to

Nope, and i believe he's pretty near the truth about some troll here. note "some" not "all". This is a forum and a good one, but actually it's one of the last website where you can grab some news (or rumor) and sometimes, heh, erm it's more about trolling and bullshit.
