Amiga Inc. started out a competition giving the chance to graphix artists to see their pics published on the forthcoming AmigaOS 4.0 cd.
Contribute now and let the world know where Eric Schwartz came from! ;-)

I hope the artists will be paid for having their work distributed as part of OS4. Isn't this simply another way for AInc to get something for nothing?

Or maybe I'm getting cynical in my old age...

Why are they going to charge the artist to enter as well? That would be in keeping with their normal business practices, SDK -> $100 for the priviledge of writing software for them to resell, Lottery Thing -> $50 for the priviledge of paying their rent.

A suggestion to Amiga Inc. : Clear up the submission rules.

At http://os.amiga.com/community/index.php?cat=&doc=contrib :

"1. Submitters remain the sole owners of any submitted image, guarantee that submitted material is their own work and take full responsibility for any copyrights, trademarks, third party insignia or any other third party owned graphic image that they use."

but the very first submission shown here doesn't seem to follow that :

"Honda S2000 Lic Plates
Contributed By:
HMetal
Contributor's Comments:
From Louie Dituri"

Or maybe Ray took a picture of Louie Dituri's car...

Still, as submission requires a registered log-in, I can see why maybe Louie didn't want to submit the picture himself.

had your fun now kiddies? time to go home now as its time for tea...

as for those that live in the real world where competitions like this go on all the time, there is nothing different in these terms.

fancy having a piece of your art imortalised forever? you can have it put on the AOS4.0 cd.

its amazing which people come out to play every time they see a AInc related thread...

Well to be honest, I couldn't predict the idea. Namely, that it came from Amiga Inc. I'd rather imagine it to come from Hyperion (or Haage & Partner, back in the times when they were responsible for OS4) I see the only difference in that Hyperion or Haage & Partner would pay serious sums, instead of expecting it for free.

Besides, the contributions drawer has been a standard part of the AmigaOS for quite some time now, what the ... got up your ... ?

Jesus, you guys crack me up. There IS contributions on AmigaOS CD's, live with it. In one way or the other, these contributions need to be gathered. This way, you can contribute YOUR picture IF YOU WANT TO. If you DON'T WANT TO, you DON'T HAVE TO. Why is this bad for YOU? It isn't bad for ME, because at worst it will give me 20 extra backgrounds I won't use. Religion, zealots...now who's the joker here? Prefering a clone obove the original? We all like the Amiga. That's why we use it. That's why we are here. So naturally AmigaOS4 is the only successor of OS3.x. It's not a reimplementation or even a guessed reimplementation or a reverse engineered reimplementation. It's a continuation with some assembly rewritten in C and then ported to PPC. So call me a zealot for preferring the AmigaOS4 above the clones. An Amiga user who has spent a fortune on his machine.

Saying something useful? OS3.5 had contributions from participants belonging to both the red and blue side now. In the spirit of that:

Having MorphOS as a free of charge contribution on the OS4 CD would be real cool. :)

EmericSH,

Amiga is doing something free, for the people out there who create free community contributions.

And as far as your superbundle remark goes, if you check amigadev.net, you'll find that Amiga has had a similar upload facility in place for AmigaDE developers and artists long before this "superbundle" was even thought of. It is not out of the ballpark to expect that we would create a similar exchange facility for AmigaOS developers and artists.

This is the start of an ongoing opportunity for artists and software developers to get their free or demo images and software on AmigaOS CDs, free of charge; they pay nothing.

The first competition features backdrops. Future competitions might feature software or other digital creations of a given category.

The "prize" is that your work gets published on the AmigaOS CD.

The comical part about the majority of the trolls here is that, in the earlier days, when I was a developer not associated with Amiga, I would have killed to have my software or art published on the "Official" AmigaOS CD. In fact, my former business partner tried in vain for many months to get our commercial software included in an official pay software package or bundle or even a FREE demo.

Well, on that "free software" front, Amiga has given people an opportunity here. Whether you take it or not is up to you. :)

The Community Exchange is also a place where software can be exchanged/traded. If can almost be guaranteed to work with AmigaOS as we are moderating every upload to assure quality. Anything that doesn't work will be removed.

So, here is your chance to use a service Amiga has created. Use it or don't, but as I can see already, those who aren't trolling are busy uploading.

I must cut this reply semi-short now as we have submissions to look at. :)

You guys really have no shame at all, it seems.

That said, there should be a lot of contributions by the time that OS4 is released.

Let's face it, the few of you that are still working at AmigaInc don't give a toss about any amiga community, you don't even know the meaning of the word. And whenever there is a competition from AmigaInc, it turns out into something quite ridiculous from AmigaInc's part.

Amiga Inc. did NOT "take" anything from ME as a Club Amiga member nor anyone else. They *offered* us rebates if we joined their club, wether anyone should accept such an offer or not is of course entirely up to each and every individual. That is NOT what I would refer to as "taking" their money. It was a business offer where an exchange between currency and wares takes place. You pay, recieve a membership of the club, and then collect the rebates when the products for the rebates are available. Noone has a problem with this except blatant trolls like you.

Furthermore, they are NOT relying on the contributions directory on the AmigaOS4 CD. Why would it even be of importance to them at all? It's just a contributions directory, for christ sake. The ones benefitting from this is the ones contributing to it since they get their software distributed to all AmigaOS4 consumers, care to tell me of a more effective way of marketing your AmigaOS4 application? I guess not.

Nobody but pathetic trolls like you whine about the t-shirts, and you didn't even pay for one to begin with. Do you really think anyone would pay $50 for just a lousy t-shirt? No. Is the t-shirt of high priority right now? No. Do you look pathetic when whining about it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and... again? Yes.
